Khao Lak stretches many kilometres along the Western Coastline of Thailand and that can only mean one thing, plenty of beautiful beaches along the Andaman Sea. The beaches are clean, at times a perfect white with plenty of bars for a drink situated throughout the outskirts of the beach.

The best beaches of note are the Nan Thong Beach, the White Sand beach and the Khuk Khak Beach. Although, you will find many secluded beaches along the coastal area to roll out a towel and enjoy the quiet, laid-back nature that is on offer in Khao Lak.

The Khao Lak town centre is less crowded than its busy neighbour, Phuket, but it doesn’t mean it lacks in entertainment, with plenty of bars, restaurants, markets, street shopping and a whole lot more on offer for the tourist, it even includes a McDonalds.

 The Bang Niang Night Markets is the major shopping paradise in town with plenty of goods on offer for sale. The markets range from fresh juices, baked goods and Thai food, to clothing, accessories and souvenirs, to name a few items up for grabs in the Bang Niang markets.

It is a great chance to spend some coin and even find a real bargain or two. It’s also a good way to catch up on your bartering skills with the friendly shop owners as you negotiate a price for that singlet.

The Tsunami Museum


The 2004 Boxing Day Tsunami devastated many countries and Khao Lak copped its whack too, destroying a large proportion of its town, with many people killed in the tragedy. While the town has rebuilt itself sensationally, they don’t forget the horror past with a museum dedicated to the 2004 Tsunami. The Museum displays many photo’s, videos and information of the tragic day in history.

The chances are when you are strolling along the beautiful beaches, you will stumble across these unique little towns that are right on the edge of the beach and a quite a lovely atmosphere, especially in the evenings. The only access to these bubbly towns is by foot, unless you are a local using the back roads.

These little beach towns contain such amenities like, restaurants, markets, tour agencies, money exchange banks, and even massage parlours on the edge of the beach, with the sounds of the waves acting as the soothing music during your relaxing therapy.
