It’s only an hour away by fast boat from Bali, Gili Trawangan is the biggest of the three Gili islands in Lombok, Indonesia.
Gili Trawangan is the most popular among the islands for visitors, well-known for powdery white sands and crystal clear waters found quickly in Bali’s mainland.
Therefore, if you’re staying in Bali, a quick 3 or 4-day escape to Gili Trawangan can give you a unique slice of tropical paradise for your own Gili Islands Itinerary.
Gili Trawangan has an undeniable hippy feel to it. Evident in the Rastafarian colours and decorations used throughout, reggae music playing, and the occasional friendly dreadlocked local you’ll encounter.
The island offers a respite from the hustle and bustle of Bali’s most touristic areas.
For one, all kinds of motorised transport aren’t allowed. The only way to get around is by foot, renting a bicycle, or on horse-driven carriages called cidomos.
The entire perimeter of Gili Trawangan is walked in approximately three hours, and there are many great beachfront spots to unwind and relax. Gili Trawangan is also quieter and laid-back than it’s neighbouring islands of Indonesia.
Around 27 trips are crossing from Bali to Gili Trawangan from various ports, with schedules in the morning and the afternoon.
It’s recommended taking the first boat out of Bali and the last ship out of Gili Trawangan to maximise your three-day trip. The first boats usually depart around 11 AM, and the last boats around 3 PM for both destinations. Find tickets to Gili Islands with this link from Get your Guide.
However, expect delays; because you’re on island time in Gili!
