Wander the Streets of Vientiane and Eat Local Cuisine in Food Stalls!

Sure, you’ll find the usual food stalls and vibrant marketplaces, but there’s something a little different about this place. Maybe the overwhelming sense of peace and tranquillity comes from the strong influence of Buddhism, the main religion in the region. Or perhaps it’s how the locals live by their values daily, creating a warm and friendly atmosphere that’s hard to find anywhere else.

As you wander through the streets, sampling the delicious street food and picking up some bargains at the market, you’ll feel genuinely experiencing Southeast Asia at its best. Just be sure to watch for dodgy food – a week on the toilet is never a fun experience! However, there’s still a great sample of local cuisines at food stalls, and you can discover the best attractions and food with this fantastic tour at Get Your Guide!

Even after my brief visit, it’s clear why Vientiane is known as the “City of Sandalwood”—with a heart crafted from the vibrant culture and spicy aromas, it is like no other. The people I met were imbued with a unique warmth that can only come from such distinct lives. It was the walking streets of Vientiane, a place far more significant than one would expect to find in Laos, and given enough time, this mercurial city could persuade any traveller to stay longer.

For me, it was hard to leave its gentle pace and tranquil sights—and while it’s true that life moves faster nowadays and nothing remains the same for very long, I still believe there are cities out there like Vientiane: places where you can enjoy an abundance of peacefulness despite their size.

Until next time Laos! Farewell!
