1. Bitexco Financial Building

The best views when you visit Saigon is a must when you visit the city and you can be assured that the perspective is different when you are away from the manic traffic that is down below and you see the fast-developing city from the 49th floor of the Bitexco Financial Building Skydeck.

The cost to have a ride on the express elevator to near the top of the building is around $12AUD, and it’s worth every dollar to get amazing 360-views of a city on the rise.

Before paying the money to head on up, make sure you go on a clear day, no need to waste your trip to Bitexco for when overcast conditions obstruct the view.

Even if heights are not your forte, you can be entertained in the shopping precinct down below with a broad range of retail outlets, restaurants, cafes and a movie cinema.

2. Vietnam War Remnant Museum

It’s not for the light hearted but The War Remnant Museum needs your full attention during your Ho Chi Minh City tour.

On first sight, it all seems fine with real United States Tanks, artillery guns and fighter planes on display when you enter through the front gates.

Thick skin is required son after when you enter the building and go upstairs to the different exhibits. The photos are not only heartbreaking but horrific to view, especially relevant to note if bringing kids with you.

Pictures of missing limbs, dead soldiers and traumatic visions of young kids running away and fearing for their lives when their villages were attacked, it brings tears to your eyes.

The agent orange room will give you goosebumps as you discover some brutal truths from what the Vietnamese call, the American War.

As disturbing and gut-wrenching the images can be, the War Remnant Museum is a great history lesson of the brutality of war and is one of the things to do in Ho Chi Minh.

The museum also represents the high strength of how far Vietnam has come as a country, considering the war was only 50-years ago.

3. Notre Dame Cathedral and Post office

In the District 1 area, the Notre Dame Cathedral and the historic post office is great for tourist who have an eye for architectural structures.

These two stunning French-designed buildings, built in the late 1800s, stand practically side by side and the vibrant city location is booming with tourist and locals alike who are eager for a glimpse of Vietnamese history in one of the top Ho Chi Minh attractions.

The area has a real carnival atmosphere with market places, book stores and souvenir shops on display to give it a vibrant feel for the happy tourist out for a good time.

Beautiful Vietnamese women are out and about also, dressed nicely in their traditional Vietnamese dress and being involved in a stunning photo amongst the backdrop of the Cathedral or Old Post Office.

4. Ben Thanh Market

Over three-thousand stalls of clothing, merchandise, seafood, fresh produce and food court that serves mainly rice noodle soup, is the makeup of this popular Ben Thanh Market and makes it one of the places of interest in Saigon.

Much like the streets, the markets are chaotic and crammed with shoppers looking for a bargain.

Pesky stores owners will do anything to grab your attention and sell you mostly useless items that are far from necessary in your life, but at times you may find a real bargain that you can’t refuse.

Just a side note, when purchasing any products, make sure you bargain down at least 50%. The locals will always try to drive the prices up on a clueless tourist who doesn’t know any better.

5. District 7 of Ho Chi Minh City

If you want a bit of modern Vietnam into your life, then take a taxi to District 7 to misit one of the must visit places in Ho CHi Minh City.

it’s a nice change to be in a real glamorous part of the city that comes with stylish restaurants lined up along the canal and a stunning walkway that leads to the Romantic and lit up Starlight Bridge that is a dazzling delight in the evening.

The Crescent Mall will knock you for six with its modern touch and will make your retail shopping experience pure luxury in the comfort of air-conditioning.

District 7 is a must to put on the list, especially if you love that laid-back lifestyle away from the chaos when you’re looking for things to do in Saigon.
