If visiting the region for adventure tickles your fancy, read about five suggestions that may suit your desires.
5 Exciting Adventure Holiday Ideas in Asia
An adventure holiday in Asia offers a variety of experiences, from relaxing beach getaways to bustling city breaks and thrilling travel expeditions. Travelling opens our world, eases everyday stress, and enriches our lives with new horizons and cultures.
Camping in Vietnam
Vietnam is among Asia’s most popular tourist destinations, and if you like a bit of exploration, delving into the world’s largest cave is right up your alley. Hang Son Doong, situated in the UNESCO-listed Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park in the Quang Binh province, has ample opportunities for you to partake in, including trekking and climbing.
However, you can also camp in the three million-year-old cave for up to two nights. It is a real bucket list ticker to say you have slept in the world’s oldest cave.
Climb to Everest base camp.
Speaking of bucket lists, what better adventure holiday than to take the iconic trek up to the base camp of Mount Everest, the most famous mountain in the world? This expedition will see you take in Sherpa villages and Tibetan-style monasteries while revelling in the gorgeous glaciers, lakes and – of course – the tallest peaks on Earth.
Regarding difficulty, the steepest climbs last around an hour each, with around four hours of walking daily. The most challenging thing is the altitude; one or two nights will be spent at 16,404 feet, and the base camp is at 18,373 feet.
Trekking the Mekong River in Cambodia
Grab your hiking boots, pack your adventurous spirit, and prepare for an unforgettable experience trekking along the Mekong River in Cambodia. This impressive river sprawls over 4,900 kilometers and is home to various animals and plants, making it a nature lover’s paradise.
On your journey, you’ll have the unique opportunity to befriend the hill tribe people of Cambodia’s Northeastern region, who can add their expertise and cultural wisdom to your travels. Don’t worry if you’re not a seasoned hiker; this trek is manageable as it follows a relatively flat and somewhat rocky path.
Exploring the rainforests in Khao Sok, Thailand
Thailand is well-known for its stunning beaches, but there’s another hidden gem that you’ll want to uncover. Khao Sok’s rainforests are a nature-lovers paradise, with lush greenery and incredible wildlife that will take your breath away. This area is rich in history, with trees that are thousands of years old.
They’re so tall that they seem to disappear into the sky. You can trek through the dense jungles or take a relaxing boat ride on the beautiful Cheow Lan Lake. You’ll spot rare creatures such as hornbills or gibbons if you’re lucky. Khao Sok should be your next destination if you’re up for an adventure.
Climbing Balinese Volcanoes
Bali has beautiful beaches and luxury resorts where you can party and relax, but it also has some excellent volcanic terrain. You can take a tour that allows you to climb to the summit of Mount Batur and raft down the Telaga Waja River. Or you can visit Mount Agung, which includes the Besakih Temple, or the Mother Temple, the largest temple on Bali’s southern slopes.
This volcano is still relatively active, last erupting in February 2018, and you can take in the beautiful sunrises at a spot where the crowds are not too big.
