During the first leg of our remarkable tour, we had the privilege of hosting a courageous North Korean defector. Unfortunately, due to safety concerns, she could not enter the DMZ. Her story, filled with heartache yet incredible bravery, touched the core of our souls.

With her sole companion, her precious child, she made the tough choice to leave behind her husband and her family and step beyond the boundaries of North Korea into China.

With the South Korean government’s unwavering support, she established a vibrant new life in bustling Seoul. Through translation, she openly shared the painful reality that she would never see her husband again, a man who would never have condoned her audacious defection. She had safeguarded her plan to flee like a secret treasure, shielding it from the prying eyes of her loved ones. However, deep within her heart, she nurtured the hope of embracing her parents again, yearning for a distant and imminent reunion.

The Observatory of DMZ South Korea

As we continue our journey, we reach the Joint Security Area (JSA) with its iconic blue buildings. You might recognize them from documentaries and news coverage worldwide. Now, imagine this: You are just a stone’s throw away from the North Korean side of the border. Although you feel safe, there is a slight tingle of excitement and trepidation.

As we step into a building on the South Korean side, we are flanked by South Korean soldiers, their unwavering presence ensuring our protection. On the other side of the building lie the blue buildings. Beyond them, North Korea stands tall, guarded by its soldiers who keenly observe our every move. The proximity is undeniable; we are indeed close to the north.

Two South Korean soldiers stand proudly on guard inside the blue buildings, demonstrating their impeccable discipline as tourists respectfully capture moments without intruding. Visitors inch closer to snap photos, making sure not to touch the soldiers. Clicks and flashes fill the air as we venture deeper into the building, eventually officially standing in North Korea. It feels unreal for a few minutes, sending shivers down your spine. However, rest assured, the sense of security never wavers.

Within the JSA, photography is encouraged. Excitement fills the air as everyone excitedly captures this extraordinary moment, posing next to the soldiers. The experience is truly remarkable.
