A brand new year brings new hope; it’s also a time to reflect on the year that has just passed us by quicker than you can say, “happy new year”, 2017, and what a year it was in travel. There is no better way to reflect on the year than going through a few of my favourite travel photos.
Many unique destinations were visited throughout the year, with many great moments, particularly in Asia. It is fitting that some photos are more cherished than others in a year that will be remembered personally for the right reasons, and that is an epic year of travelling the world.

The old and new of Ho Chi Minh City
Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam is a marvel for anyone seeking vibrant experiences. Avoiding heavy traffic may be challenging, but it is well worth the effort as the city has much to offer. Traditional and modern architecture fuse to create a unique atmosphere that cannot be found anywhere else. It’s fascinating to see broken-down buildings standing next to towering skyscrapers.
These displays capture the essence of the city perfectly. If you want to immerse yourself in a town that reflects Vietnam’s past and future, Ho Chi Minh City is the place to be.
Elephant Waterfalls in Da Lat, Vietnam
If you find yourself in Da Lat, you will undoubtedly be in awe of the natural beauty surrounding you. It’s no secret that the city is full of stunning waterfalls, but Elephant Waterfalls should not be missed. As you go to the falls, you’ll see lush green forests and hear the sounds of rushing water in the distance.
Once you arrive, you’ll be greeted by the breathtaking sight of water cascading down the rocks and the spray of mist hitting your face. It’s hard not to be entirely absorbed by the beauty of the falls. After you leave, Elephant Waterfalls’ magical sounds and visuals will undoubtedly be etched in your memory forever.
Culture and tradition are alive in Vietnam.
Walking the streets of Ho Chi Minh City and downtown Saigon is a must-try adventure for visitors to Vietnam. It’s a bustling metropolis alive with the energy of tourists and locals.
The area around The Old Post Office and the Notre Dame Cathedral is always filled with people having a great time, but when you go past these landmarks, you’ll see the natucity’s natural charm. Traditional Vietnamese culture comes into play through street food vendors, vibrant markets, and locals dressed in traditional clothes.
The sight of women wearing iconic conical hats and carrying baskets on their shoulders is common. As you take in the sights and sounds of the city, it’s easy to see why it’s often referred to as the heart of Vietnam.
Walking the streets of Ho Chi Minh City is an immersive experience that allows you to experience the country’s rich history and unique culture firsthand.
Family time on Four islands in Vietnam
Travelling with family is an incredible experience – the shared memories, the bonding moments, and the opportunity to explore new places with the ones you love cannot be beaten. I remember one particular day during our trip to Southern Vietnam when my boys and I went on the Four Islands day tour.
Something caught our attention while cruising and taking in the stunning scenery. We all turned in unison to see what it was, and what we saw took our breath away. The view was breathtaking, and we knew then that we were making memories that would last a lifetime.
There is truly nothing like exploring the world with the ones you love.

A bunch of Volunteers in Laos
Volunteering abroad is one of the most fulfilling experiences you can have while travelling and heading to Laos was no exception. What made this experience even better was meeting a diverse group of volunteers worldwide.
We all came together to impact the local community and create lasting memories positively. Our group photos captured the beautiful scenery and the bond we shared as we worked together towards a common goal.

An older man and his bull – Laos
As I strolled through a quiet village in Vientiane, Laos, I was amazed at its distinct atmosphere from the bustling city. The ever-smiling locals were diligently preoccupied with their daily endeavours, providing the village with an authentic and quaint feel.
As I prepared to leave, I came across the most memorable sight: an older man standing chest-deep in water, tending to his beloved bull. With the sun setting behind me, I captured an awe-inspiring photograph of this authentic duo.
It was a remarkable moment that I will always cherish in my travels.
Teaching the monks in Laos
In 2017, I had the incredible opportunity to teach English to a group of monks in Laos. It was a truly eye-opening experience to witness their great devotion to their beliefs and practices. As I met these men of all ages, I found myself impressed by their commitment and delightful sense of humour.
Spending time with them and helping them learn this universal language was a true pleasure, and it warmed my heart to see their eagerness to learn new things. It was truly amazing to be a part of their journey and to witness firsthand their growth and progress in mastering this language.
Prayer time in Laos
Laos is a country rich in culture and traditions, with religion integral to daily life. Visiting one of the many temples throughout the country can offer a unique and awe-inspiring experience. If you happen to stumble upon a temple during prayer time, you will witness the devotion and dedication of the Laotian people to their spiritual beliefs.

After spending numerous weekends volunteering, it was time to take a break and explore the natural beauty of Laos. Vang Vieng was calling with its stunning hills and rivers, promising scenic views and an adrenaline-fueled adventure for any outdoor enthusiast. But don’t be fooled; Vang Vieng isn’t just for the thrill-seekers; it’s also a town that knows how to party.
With a wide range of activities, including tubing down the Nam Song River and exploring the nearby caves, Vang Vieng has something for everyone. So grab your sunscreen and sense of adventure; it’s time to head to Laos and discover Vang Vieng’s incredible beauty.

As I walked on the edge of Marina Bay, something magical happened. My surroundings came to life as the sun slowly began to fade away. With each passing moment, the city became even more vibrant and captivating. I couldn’t help but feel lucky to experience such a breathtaking skyline view in Singapore.
I immediately pulled out my camera, eager to capture this particular moment. Walking on the edge of Marina Bay at this time was a once-in-a-lifetime experience that I won’t forget.

Baye, you’re greeted with a spectacle like no other—a breathtaking garden filled with towering Supertrees, each lit up in vibrant colours. As you wander through the gardens, you’ll glimpse the mighty Marina Bay Sands in the background, a truly awe-inspiring sight.
