The biggest threat when visiting Rottnest Island is getting up close and personal to the little Quokkas, the most adorable small animals you’ll ever see.

What is a Quokka? Well, it’s like a miniature Kangaroo who sneak up on you from out of the blue. These little marsupials are the island’s life and are roaming about everywhere you go, including the main town centre, where these little creatures will get close for a feed.

There is a no-touch policy regarding the little quokkas. You can’t blame the authorities for enforcing such a rule, especially with the unfortunate mistreatment of these tiny animals over the years by misbehaved tourists.

Hard to imagine anyone would want to hurt these little guys. Still, it only comes from a tiny minority of tourists who have had too much to drink.

Sometimes it happens, a day at the beach is soured by rain. You don’t need to have a planned day wasted by water; it’s where you’re heading anyway. So let’s look at the things to do at the beach when it rains.

Take a coastal Walk in the rain.

One of my favourite things to do at the beach when it rains is take a long walk along the shoreline. It’s so peaceful and calming.

Therefore bring a lightweight raincoat or poncho to keep you dry and enjoy a walk of a different kind. Enjoying the coastal sights during the rain will make many laughs and memories. I promise you.

Play a few beach Games.

Playing games is a great way to spend time with family or friends. Bring along a Frisbee or football and play in the rain! Just watch out for slippery conditions, but you’ll have fun.

Read a book and wait for the rain to pass by.

Naturally, you will want to be under shelter or in the car, but this is the perfect opportunity to catch up on that book you’ve wanted to read. A day at the beach doesn’t need to be all about swimming and sunbathing; it can be about relaxing in any way you see fit by reading a good book.

Also, listening to the sounds of the rain is a beautiful feeling while preoccupying yourself while reading; you may even doze off to sleep.

Enjoy a Picnic in the rain.

A rainy day at the beach doesn’t have to be a total washout. It can be the perfect opportunity to enjoy a picnic. If you are visiting a beach that has a sheltered BBQ area, pack up your favourite food and have a feast.

Just remember to bring along some umbrellas or tarps to keep you dry! If you don’t feel like cooking, there’s always the option of grabbing some take-out. Either way, a rainy day picnic at the beach can be a fun and relaxing way to spend some time.

Watch a Movie or two, Yes!

One of the best things to do when it rains is curl up with a good movie. If you’re at the beach, make the most of the rain and watch a film in a shelter. All you need is a laptop, speakers, and an umbrella, and you’re all set! Trust me; it’s a lot of fun, and you’ll make great memories.

Go for a swim

You’ll get it anyway, so why not go for a swim on the beach? The condition needs to allow for it. You are not going to enter the water during a storm. However, you can still have a lot of fun swimming on the beach during the rain, especially in a warm climate like Bali, Thailand or Malaysia.

Take some Photos of the gorgeous coastline.

The rain doesn’t always have to dim your view of the beautiful beach. So many creative ways to take photos will make it worthwhile, even if some moisture is involved!

It would be best to have an umbrella or waterproof camera case for protection. Enjoy capturing those memories on film because they’ll live forever in HD-quality video form.

Build a mega sandcastle.

The dampness of the sand will help make the sandcastle stay together. So make the biggest and best sandcastle ever in the rain.

You’ll never forget the day at the beach when you made a mega sandcastle while raining as a family. There will also be some fond pictures to look back upon.

The rain could have started unexpectedly, but we’re already at the beach, so we may as well make the most of it!

We may get a day off work or school unexpectedly, and since it’s raining, we decide to spend the day at the beach. Because that’s what we do, right?

No matter the reason, if you find yourself at the beach during a rainstorm, don’t despair! There are still plenty of things to do to have fun. Just bring a raincoat, umbrella, and maybe even some games to keep you entertained. And if all else fails, you can always curl up with a good book or movie and relax!
