Australind is a great place to visit if you’re looking for a quiet day trip or a weekend stay. While it’s not as popular as some other tourist destinations in Western Australia, there are still plenty of things to do in Australind.
This little town has something for everyone, from nature walks and fishing spots to charming cafes and restaurants. If you’re looking for a relaxing break from the hustle and bustle of city life, Australind is the perfect destination!
The boutique but picturesque town will always hold humble favouritism personally, for reasons I’ll keep to myself. However, never have I come across a city that offers a residential life, coastal life and country life all in one, and for that, Australind is quite charming.
Another bonus, Western Australia’s biggest Regional City, Bunbury, is only fifteen minutes away. So who is to say you can’t set up base in one of the humble caravan parks in Australind and explore the South West Region at your leisure.
Where is Australind
Australind is located approximately 11 kilometres south-east of Bunbury, in the South West region of Western Australia. It’s an excellent base for exploring the area, as it’s close to the city and the coast.
How to get there from Perth to Australind
The best way to get from Perth to Australind is by car, driving down the Forrest Highway until the exit points. The journey from Perth to Australind will take approximately two hours by car, or longer if you elect to go by bus.
The Australind train service also runs daily from Perth to Bunbury. You can get a bus, taxi or Uber to your next destination upon arrival at the Bunbury terminal.
Places to stay in Australind.
Some accommodation options are available in Australind, including motels and caravan parks. If you’re looking for somewhere to stay overnight, the Australind Tourist Park is a great option. This caravan park offers affordable accommodation with all the necessary amenities and is close to all the things to do in Australia.
Another option is The Leschenault Inlet Caravan Park. It may not look stunning, but all you need to do is look across to the Estuary, and the choice will not be regretful.
Of course, if you’re having trouble finding accommodation, there are plenty of places to stay in Bunbury.
Places to eat in Australind
There are plenty of things to do in Australind, but one of the best things to do is eat! This little town has some excellent cafes and restaurants, serving delicious food using fresh produce.
In the Treendale part of the town, you’ll find ample places to eat in Australind, in the likes of Chinese, Thai, Pizzas shops and many cafes. For those who love fast food, McDonald’s, KFC and Hungry Jacks are also situated in the Treendale area, outside the shopping Centre.
At the Australind Village Shopping Centre, as well as the Coles and Aldi supermarkets, there are a few places to get a bite. There are fish and chips, bakeries, a Chinese Restaurant, Chicken Treat and Benesse Cafe.

Walk along the Leschenault Estuary
The Leschenault Estuary is a beautiful spot for a leisurely walk. The Estuary is located just outside the town centre that, spans the whole Region of Australind and is home to various birdlife. If you’re lucky, A coffee van is often stationed at the Christina Street Reserve section of the Estuary.
Dinner and drinks at Treendale Farm
The Treendale Farm is a charming restaurant located in the heart of Australind in the Treendale Estate, close to the highway.
The restaurant serves traditional Australian and international cuisine and has a well-stocked bar to satisfy anyone’s drinking desires.
Explore the Leschenault Leisure Centre
The Leschenault Leisure Centre is an excellent sport for a workout to lose a few calories. The centre also has a sauna, steam room, and spa facilities so that you can relax and unwind.
If you want to play basketball, squash or Indoor Soccer, the Leschenault Leisure Centre has fantastic courts for hire. Outside the Leisure Centre is a large sports field where you can keep in touch with your Australian Rules Football, cricket, soccer, and tennis skills.
Once done with playing sport and working up an exercise, you can head over to the LSA the PAV for dinner and drinks.
Water activities in the Leschenault Estuary
A host of water activities are happening in the waters of the Estuary. There’s canoeing, kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, and even fishing. For those who love crabbing, you can gather your nets and try your luck at catching a crab or two. Make sure you know your size and limits, as it’s often regulated.
The Foreshore has a popular boat Ramp that takes you into the Estuary and towards the sea if you own a boat. You can also find several fishing spots along the Estuary, so don’t forget your rod! Or crab nets, for that matter, be sure to follow the rangers’ regulation in size.
Ridley Place Foreshore
The Ridley Place Foreshore is a lovely spot for a picnic, with plenty of BBQs and sheltered areas with views of the Estuary. The kids will love the playground equipment and the open parkland to kick a football and runabout.
Often there are regular events at the Foreshore, like Youth activities, food vans, ANZAC day breakfast and other events which bring the local community together.
Featured Wood Gallery and Museum
The Australind Wood Gallery and Museum is a great place to learn about the area’s history and see some beautiful woodwork. The gallery features various exhibitions inside and outside the main building and a gift shop where you can purchase souvenirs.
Enjoy the scenic the Collie River
The Collie River is one of the things that makes Australind so unique. The River runs through the town and provides stunning views. You can go for a walk, have a picnic lunch, or relax and take in the scenery.
Different activities on the River include kayaking or canoeing, where you can enjoy a scenic paddle to the Eaton Foreshore. Or you can even take the boat and try your hand at fishing and catch a Perch.
