Why Stay in a Hotel When You Could? Stay in Alternatives

Why Stay in a Hotel When You Could? Stay in Alternatives

Why Stay in a Hotel When You Could? Find other affordable and alternative accommodations without spending a fortune.

Hotels are usually the obvious choice when travelling abroad, but there are many options to choose from when finding suitable accommodation.

You can try renting an apartment if you are staying in a large group, go to a hostel to bring down the costs and meet new people or even visit with a local family to learn their customs and culture first-hand.

Travelling is all about learning new things and gaining new experiences. Hence, while staying in a hotel complex is fine if you are looking for a week of distress, trying alternative accommodations is an ideal way to shake things up.

Once you have the travel bug, it’s impossible to remember a time when you weren’t curious about other people and ways of life. And now you’ve been bitten, here are three ways to feed your passion.

Find your luxury resort on Booking.com and head to paradise for your next vacation.

Why Stay in a Hotel

Why Stay in a Hotel When You Could?

Why stay in a hotel when you could try alternative options? Why not stay in an Airbnb or a hostel? Camping or hosting? There are so many reasons to choose something other than a hotel. Hotels can be expensive and not always located in the best areas.

Why Stay in a Hotel When You Could? When you could Rent an Apartment

Apartments are always an excellent idea if you go on holiday, especially if many of you are. Unlike hotels, apartments offer a larger communal space for you to hang out and relax together, plus you can enjoy self-catering rather than relying on expensive meals.

This is true in places like Indonesia, where the hotels are incredible but sometimes feel like cloistered tourist destinations rather than an authentic experience.

Instead, you can get an excellent apartment close to the sea or within local communities and take some time to walk in their shoes and live an Indonesian lifestyle, if just for a few weeks. Look at Gudang Disewa for ideas on what you can rent for a reasonable price.

Families, in particular, should consider apartments for the flexibility they offer. Hotels also serve breakfast between specific times and have a particular check-in time, so flats are much easier going.

Since you will be making breakfast, you can have it whenever you like. As many holidays let owners run apartments, you can negotiate the best times for your arrival and departure directly with them to save on fuss later.

Why Stay in a Hotel When You Could

Why Stay in a Hotel When You Could? When you could try a serviced apartment while holidaying.

Try a Hostel

If you are young, free and travelling solo, hostels are often great places to meet people as you travel and quickly form a social bond. Many hostels come with bars attached, giving you a natural place to meet new people and have a great time together. Plus, since millennials are far more demanding, hostels worldwide have significantly improved and are no longer the bedbug-ridden squats they used to be. Expect Wi-Fi, hot water and your little light!

Most hostels rent out beds rather than rooms, so sharing a room with a group of strangers can be daunting. However, many hostels will allow you to choose a single-sex room. You can also specify how many people you are willing to share with; some hostels offer single or double rooms you can take alone.

Consider that the more people you are willing to share with, the cheaper your stay is likely to be, but you are less likely to get a perfect night’s sleep – especially if some are out partying all night!

Hostels are generally filled with bright young people taking time to travel between studying, but there’s no reason that older adults can’t enjoy hostels. Check with the hostels in the area you are interested in to see whether there are more low-key rooms you could try, and keep an open mind.

While some hostels are about organising the next beach party, they aren’t all like that, and some are perfect for a chat and a beer.

A hostel may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but it’s an affordable option—pic by Pexels.

Stay with a Local Family

This alternative is, admittedly, a bit riskier than the previous ideas since you might not get on well with the family you stay with and horrible would that be for your holiday. However – and this is big if you do get on- this is probably the best way to experience an authentic local lifestyle and get to know the people in the area.

If you aren’t sure whether this is for you, you could always sign up to be a host family and see whether this is something you could get on board with in the future. There are so many students and travellers coming to Australia to learn about our culture that you could be a host and learn a bit more about the principles of the idea.

As you welcome someone into your home, you will have the luxury of being in your home with all your comforts. Plus, trying it this way will give you an insight into what it is like hosting and how you should behave on holiday with your host family.

There are so many benefits to staying with a host family, and you will likely have made friends for life after your holiday. In our modern world, we have lost the trust and natural intimacy humans enjoy in favour of technologies that might cross all geographical barriers but still keep us apart.

Learning to make new friends and accommodate other people, ask them about their culture and allow them to show you new things is such a human ideal that, though it might take a leap of faith, it is gratifying.

James Bond Island

Vacating with a host family is daring, but it might work.

Wherever you choose to stay and whatever you plan to do, remember you have a fantastic opportunity when travelling. You can see, eat, talk, and everything else that being human means.

Take yourself out of your comfort zone, leave the poolside resort behind, even if just for one day of exploration, and let yourself go and find what you came here for. Travel is all about that, and you, my friend, have the bug.

Sailing around Oz! See the Best of Australia on the Ocean

When exploring Australia, most people immediately think of taking a road trip, and rightly so. It’s undoubtedly an excellent way to see this incredible country’s striking landscapes and diverse terrains.

However, it’s also worth remembering that other unique and exciting ways exist to experience Australia’s beauty. One option that’s often overlooked is sailing around Oz! From the awe-inspiring coastline to the countless islands, there are breathtaking panoramic views, mesmerizing beaches, and lush greenery.

Sailing can be refreshing to see Australia’s unparalleled natural beauty uniquely and thrillingly. Plus, you’re sure to make memories that will last a lifetime. So, why not consider setting sail and exploring the land from a new perspective?

Sailing Around Oz!

Australia’s beautiful coastlines and fascinating landscapes have long been a popular destination for adventurers and travellers alike. While many opt for a classic road trip to discover this vast country, there’s another way to explore Australia that few have considered: sailing around Oz. Imagine setting sail and exploring hidden coves, encountering friendly dolphins and whales, and discovering remote islands only accessible by boat.

Learn the Skills

Now, road-tripping is simple. As long as you can drive a car, you should be fine. Most major highways are densely populated, and it’s doubtful you’ll spend extended periods driving without bumping into others along the way. Sailing is an entirely different ball game.

You need to know how to sail and be confident in coping with stressful situations. You never know when the weather might take a turn for the worse, and if you do experience problems, it could be quite a while before help can make its way out to you.

Before seriously considering taking to the waters, ensure you have all of the necessary skills to make a success of your trip. Also, avoid sailing solo. Find a competent sailing buddy to team up with!

Secure Your Boat

Are you dreaming of sailing around Oz? Securing a boat is the first step towards making that dream a reality. If you don’t own a boat, renting is your best option.

However, make sure that you do your research and see the boat before paying for it. You want to ensure it’s in good condition to enjoy your journey without any problems.

Don’t let the fear of securing a boat hold you back from exploring the beauty of Australia’s coastlines. With the right skills and a reliable ship, you’ll be on your way to experiencing the adventure of a lifetime.

Additional Comforts

When embarking on a sailing trip around Oz, it’s essential to prioritize your comfort and ensure that you have all the necessary amenities. Besides the essentials like food, water, and shelter, consider investing in additional conveniences to make your journey much more enjoyable.

You might be surprised at the little things that can make a big difference, such as an awning to protect you from the sun’s harmful rays. Awnings Melbourne provides high-quality shelters that are easy to install and allows you to lounge outside without sunburn.

Don’t underestimate the value of these small comforts! They can make your journey around Australia a truly remarkable experience.

Plan a Route

Now that you’ve put in the groundwork, the fun can begin! It’s time to start planning a route around the Australian coastline! Note down any central locations you want to pass by. One of the most popular sailing spots tends to be the Whitsunday Islands. The tropical climate and great onshore bases make it a sailor’s paradise.

You’ll have beautiful blue waters to sail across and white sand beaches to look forward to when you return to shore. The Great Barrier Reef also protects the area from solid swells, making the sailing experience less strenuous and more relaxing. Perfect!

A Conclusion to Your Sailing Around Oz Water Adventure.

A sailing holiday can be an incredible experience, allowing you to explore the wonders of Australia from a unique and thrilling perspective.

Whether inexperienced or looking for a new challenge, sailing provides plenty of opportunity to soak up the sun and sea, experience nature in its rawest form, make unforgettable memories with friends and family – and above all else, relax in tranquillity.

If you’ve always wanted to take a sailing trip but have been too intimidated by the thought of all the effort involved, remember that there are plenty of ways to make it easier on yourself; enlisting professional help or researching well are both great options that will ensure your journey is as smooth as possible.

Don’t let what seems like overwhelming obstacles prevent you from embarking on an adventure that may change your life!

How to Make the Most out of Great Food in Penang – Malaysia

How to Make the Most out of Great Food in Penang – Malaysia

Authored by Anitha Thanabalan (contributor)

Penang in Malaysia is a foodie paradise that will tantalize your taste buds! With its diverse mix of cultures, the city boasts an incredible array of cuisines that cater to locals, expats, and travellers alike.

From traditional Malay dishes like nasi lemak and satay to the famous spicy, sweet and sour flavours of Penang’s Chinese cuisine, there is no shortage of delicious food in Penang. But it’s not just about the food. The city’s street food culture is a must-try experience for anyone wanting to immerse themselves in the local culture.

When in Penang, take a food tour or explore the famous night markets to sample some of the city’s best food offerings. With something for everyone, Penang is the ultimate destination for foodies looking to indulge in a world of flavours.

Food in Penang, you know you wanna try it.

How to Make the Most out of Great Food in Penang

One of the most delightful dishes I’ve encountered is Hainan Chicken Rice. This delectable creation originates from early Chinese immigrants hailing from Southern China. The chicken is expertly prepared by poaching it at boiling temperature, then roasted or steamed with a medley of tantalizing seasonings like garlic, ginger, pandan leaves, and more.

In the heart of Chulia Street, you’ll find a hidden gem called Goh Thew Chik Hainan Chicken Rice, one of my favourite spots to get this delicious treat. While there are numerous places to satisfy your chicken rice cravings, this place truly stands out. Interestingly, they specialize in serving chicken rice and may give you an odd look if you request anything else.

Now, if there’s one thing you absolutely must indulge in, it’s the infamous Wantan Mee from Ah Ngau. Without fail, Ah Ngau has been dishing out his signature Wantan Mee at the same spot for over three decades. Previously, his father upheld the same legacy of serving this mouthwatering noodle dish. The noodles themselves are lovingly handmade by a local noodle artisan. However, the flavour profile has remained unchanged over the years—they’re seasoned with lard and light soy sauce and served alongside minced pork wontons. Try them with pickled sliced green chillies, sesame oil, and a dash of pepper for an extra kick.

Ngau’s culinary repertoire doesn’t stop at Wantan Mee alone, as he’s also known for his irresistible beef noodles—a delicacy I am not accustomed to. This dish hails from an old Guangzhou recipe, featuring succulent beef brisket simmered to perfection in a rich and savoury dark broth. The beef noodles are served with the same wanton noodles, creating a uniquely harmonious taste that will leave you craving more.

Fresh chillies will play a part in the food in Penang.

Assam Laksa, a renowned Penang delicacy, combines a delightful medley of flavours that locals swear by. This traditional dish features a thick yet slightly thin broth comprising poached mackerel, tamarind, lemongrass, chillies, and shrimp paste. The tamarind adds a delightful tanginess, perfectly complementing the rice vermicelli noodles that crown the dish.

However, if the distinct fishy taste of Assam Laksa does not appeal to your palate, allow me to introduce you to Curry Laksa. Also known as curry mee in Penang due to the noodle variety it employs, this coconut-based curry soup boasts an equally tantalizing blend of ingredients. Picture bean curd puffs, fish sticks, shrimp, cockles, and shredded chicken, all harmoniously immersed in a rich, fragrant broth. Rest assured; you need not acquire a taste for congealed pork blood to relish this culinary delight.

Now, let’s delve into another culinary gem of Penang—the Penang Char Kway Teow. This mouthwatering dish features stir-fried flat rice noodles, skillfully infused with dark and light soy sauce and accompanied by succulent prawns, cockles, bean sprouts, and fragrant chopped chives. While each street vendor may put their unique spin on its presentation, the essence of this dish remains intact. Some vendors even serve it on a banana leaf, allowing the noodles to absorb every flavour.

While it’s important to note that Penang Char Kway Teow may not be the epitome of a healthy dish due to its higher saturated fat content, this noodle masterpiece held great appeal in the past among fishermen, farmers, and cockle gatherers. It provided an affordable energy source and essential nutrients, making it a staple among hardworking individuals seeking sustenance.

Nasi Lemak, one of my all-time favourite dishes, is an exquisite culinary delight that transcends the boundaries of breakfast, lunch, or dinner. This delectable Malaysian specialty, lovingly referred to as “Fat rice” due to its rich and creamy coconut-infused rice, is elegantly plated with sambal – a compelling blend of fiery chilli peppers, shrimp paste, fish sauce, garlic, ginger, shallots, scallion, palm sugar, lime juice, and rice vinegar.

The symphony of flavours doesn’t end there. This mouthwatering dish is elevated with crispy fried anchovies, crunchy peanuts, and perfectly cooked hard-boiled eggs. While the traditional rendition is already a masterpiece, there are delightful variations, such as the addition of savoury fried chicken or succulent chicken rendang. The latter features tender meat bathed in coconut milk and an aromatic medley of spices, slowly simmered until the flavours meld and the sauce thickens.

For any culinary explorer, a visit to Georgetown is essential, and the culinary crown jewel lies within Red Garden: a vibrant street food haven. This legendary food court not only pampers your taste buds with an endless array of culinary wonders but also offers the unique experience of a beer garden. Imagine savouring your delicious meal while enjoying a chilled beer. And the fun doesn’t stop there – every evening after nine, live entertainment takes centre stage, adding an infectious energy to the captivating ambience.
