Postcards: A Journey to Thailand’s James Bond Island

Postcards: A Journey to Thailand’s James Bond Island

If you're a fan of 007, then heading out to Thailand's James Bond Island is a must-visit destination. The island rose to fame after being used as the main antagonist's hideaway in the Bond movie, "The man with the Golden Gun," starring Roger Moore and the stunning Britt Ekland.

However, even if you're unfamiliar with the movie, the island's breathtaking landscape and unique rock formations are worth the trip alone. As you cruise towards the island, you can expect to be greeted by mesmerising views that you'll reach for your camera almost immediately.

Fast forward to the 21st century, and James Bond Island still stands as a timeless beauty amongst other islands in Phang Nga Bay. Despite its commercialisation and popularity with tourists, the island's unique appearance still captures the imagination of visitors who flock to see its stunning showpiece.

The beautiful women in their modern-day swimwear only add to the island's allure, making it a must-visit destination for anyone looking for an unforgettable experience. Whether you're an avid James Bond fan or simply seeking a stunning natural wonder, this island will leave you in awe. So pack your bags, grab the sunscreen, and get ready to explore James Bond Island - a true gem in the heart of Phang Nga Bay.

James Bond Island

Like the 1974 film, beautiful women still go to James Bond Island.

The real name of James Bond Island is what?

Hidden away in the Andaman Sea, there's a stunning islet nestled between the rolling waves. It is majestic and proud, bathed in the warm sun and kissing the archipelago. Tourists come from around the world to lay eyes on this natural wonder, and it's easy to see why. Known as James Bond Island, it's a picturesque destination immortalised in film and literature.

However, many travellers don't know that the island has another name: Ko Khao Phing Kan. And the iconic tower that stands tall in the waters nearby? That's Ko Tapu, a fascinating geological formation that's earned its place in the limelight alongside James Bond himself. So whether you're a long-time fan of 007 or simply seeking adventure in a new land, Ko Khao Phing Kan is a must-visit destination that will leave you breathless.

  Getting to James Bond Island

To experience the iconic James Bond Island, you must travel by boat. Various options are available, from luxurious speed boats to more humble Longboats. Day tours are abundant around Phuket and the Phang Nga Province, providing visitors with an unforgettable Bond experience in Thailand.

Most cruises to the island depart from The Phuket Marina, and the journey lasts approximately 90 minutes. If you are staying on the mainland, don't worry; other departure areas throughout Phang Nga Bay offer quick access to the island. Ask the friendly tour agencies on the town centre streets for more details on day tours. Boarding a boat and savouring the stunning surroundings is an incredible way to get to James Bond Island.

What to do at James Bond Island

As soon as you step on James Bond Island, there's a sense of magic you can't quite shake off. The crystal clear waters and the towering limestone cliffs surrounding you are nothing short of surreal. You'll want to make the most of your time on the island, and there are a few things you can't miss.

Take lots of Photos

As a photographer, there's nothing quite like capturing the perfect shot that encapsulates all the beauty and wonders nature offers. And if you're lucky enough to find yourself at James Bond Island, you're in for a treat. This stunning island is a photographer's dream, with endless opportunities to snap breathtaking photos.

From all different angles and vantage points, you'll be able to find the perfect shot, especially if you head to those higher spots that offer the best views of the Ko Tapu Islet. Don't forget to snap a few selfies to remember this incredible experience for years!

Great photo shots can be found all over the island.

Relax and stroll in the Sun on the famous Thai Island.

Thailand is a haven of relaxation and fun-filled adventures, and even with a limited schedule, there is always an opportunity to soak up some rays. Whether you're craving a peaceful day lounging on the beach or exploring the boutique island, there is something for everyone in the Thai Tourist Attraction

If you're looking for a quick getaway, consider taking a stroll on James Bond Island, where you can bask in the gentle warmth of the sun and take in the picturesque views this famous location offers. And plenty of shade is available on the main island for those who prefer a little respite from the heat.

So whether you're a responsible traveller seeking some downtime or a sun-worshipper needing a little R&R, Thailand offers endless possibilities for a fulfilling vacation experience.

Shopping at the boutique markets on James Bond Island

When shopping on James Bond Island, there are some things to remember. Firstly, it won't be the cheapest place to buy souvenirs. However, if you're looking for a unique shopping experience, the boutique markets at the rear of the beach are worth a browse. The stalls are neatly rowed, adding to the charm of the atmosphere.

While they sell many of the same souvenirs found on the mainland, there are also a few hidden gems if you look closely. Nonetheless, saving your buying for Phuket is probably best if you're on a budget. Either way, visiting James Bond Island is a must-see, and exploring the markets is another exciting aspect of this beautiful location.

If you're looking for a refreshing way to enjoy the stunning scenery of James Bond Island, why not take a dip in the calm bay? Swimming is a popular option for visitors, and if you're feeling up to it, you can even take the forty-metre swim to touch the famous islet. Even if you're not up for the challenge, the water is perfect for a cool splash on a hot day.

Swimming in the bay provides a unique perspective of the island you won't want to miss. Don't forget your camera, as you'll undoubtedly want to capture the beauty of your surroundings from every angle. So, dip in the crystal-clear waters of James Bay Island – a refreshing and memorable experience you won't soon forget!

3 Ways to find Free Accommodation in Western Australia

3 Ways to find Free Accommodation in Western Australia

Guest Post By Mark and Nate at Escape Artist 11:11

Have you ever considered staying in unconventional accommodations during your travels? Besides being a cost-effective option, it opens doors to new experiences and stories. During our visit to Perth, Western Australia, we discovered three unique non-traditional places to stay that blew our minds.

From unique encounters with locals to making lifelong friendships with fellow travellers, these places brought us a whole new perspective on travel. In this guide, we'll take you through our top picks and share why they're worth considering for your next adventure. Trust us; you won't regret skipping the usual hotel or hostel routine!

3 Ways to Find Free Accommodation in Western Australia

If you're headed to Western Australia, finding affordable accommodations can be daunting. However, with some creativity and an adventurous spirit, you can score some great options for free!

House Sitting

House sitting can seem like quite a strange concept. Also known as pet sitting (most "assignments" include animals to take care of), the deal is that homeowners find trustworthy strangers to come and take care of their property (and pets) while they go on vacation. Fido/Felix aren't sent to expensive, stressful kennels, the owners get peace of mind knowing everything is well-cared for, and you get a free place to stay! Numerous websites allow hosts and sitters to sign up, log in and search for a good match.

We used https://www.aussiehousesitters.com.au/ to find gigs in Western Australia, but there are global ones, such as https://www.trustedhousesitters.com and https://www.nomador.com/. Sites usually charge a reasonable yearly membership fee, giving you access to potential house-sits all over Australia (and with the latter two, the rest of the world).

Fun at a Perth beach.

If you love animals and have a passion for pet-sitting, then building a solid portfolio of references is crucial in showcasing your skills and abilities to potential clients. The best place to start is with friends whose pets you have cared for in the past; their glowing recommendations can go a long way in establishing your credibility and reliability.

Once you have a few actual assignments under your belt, your pet-sitting resume will start to take shape, and soon, homeowners will reach out to you for their furry companion's care needs. So, don't underestimate the power of positive feedback; it could be the key to opening doors to new opportunities and building lasting relationships with pets and their owners!

3 Ways to find Free Accommodation in Western Australia

It's worth noting that this exchange relies on faith in humanity rather than any monetary transaction. We've heard of sites that charge both homeowners and sitters, but in our experience, it's better to avoid accepting payment as it changes the relationship dynamics. This deal is all about trust and mutual generosity, not a service to gain free digs.

A word of advice: Try organising Skype conversations with your potential sits, too, as it gives you a better idea of what to expect. We speak from experience when we say that not all house-sitting assignments are a walk in the park…   But generally speaking, pet sitting has been a wonderful, fruitful experience for us. In our blog post "Why pet sitting is perfect for travelling animal lovers", we go into greater detail about why we still look after animals worldwide.

Couch surfing Another way to make new friends and have a more soulful travelling experience is to try couch surfing. Some people claim that the website and its concept plateaued in the mid-2000s, but we recently did it in Perth and can vouch for the community's size and popularity there and in the rest of the world.

How about Couch Surfing

Travellers can sign up at http://www.couchsurfing.com and create a profile, then search the database for thousands of like-minded people offering a place to stay free of charge. The accommodation isn't always a couch, either; most hosts provide a private room to sleep in and have had so many guests stay in their home that they are very well prepared for hospitality for their sofa-surfers.

To bag a decent place to crash, having an honest, attractive profile and the intention of genuinely wanting to engage with the host is crucial. Members want to feel that they're inviting someone fun, exciting and considerate into their home, so a blank or vague profile is bound to be unappealing.

Take a drive through Kings Park.

Another thing to remember is to engage with them in online conversation before you show up, asking questions related to their profile and travel experiences to see if they would get along in person. It's essential to read their profiles carefully, as some hosts have certain stipulations, such as individual guests only or specific gender preferences.

If all this sounds a little bit kinky, you're right to be apprehensive. A few couch surfer hosts besmirch the concept with a hint of seediness, although it will be pretty evident from their profiles if they are looking for more than just a conversation about travel. Look out for "naked sleepers" or "share a bed" in the tags, and stay precise if sexual adventures aren't a part of your agenda. Site moderation also helps surfers remain safe, and there's a whole section on the website devoted to it, so it's simple to find the right social experience for you.

3 Ways to find Free Accommodation in Western Australia

We stayed with a friendly, fascinating German couple who lived in downtown Perth. They had hosted hundreds of surfers and provided us with a very comfortable private room and even our bathroom, proving how well-equipped and generous some hosts can be.

We learned about their work in Alice Springs and their conservation efforts all over the globe and got to know Perth a little better thanks to their guidance as locals, which is what couch surfing is genuinely all about. WWOOFing/WorkAway If you don't mind getting your hands dirty and chipping in to help with physical tasks, this third method of finding accessible accommodation in Western Australia will suit you.

Whether you want to help an eco-tourism company in Broome or try landscape gardening next to the Margaret River, there's a variety of work to be found in Western Australia. With websites like http://www.wwoof.com.au/ (Willing Workers On Organic Farms) and https://www.workaway.info/, travellers can discover ideal hosts to live with in exchange for a few hours of work per day.

3 Ways to find Free Accommodation in Western Australia

How About Working on a farm

Like couch surfing and house sitting, registration with the websites allows you to search a database of ideal locations, accommodations, hosts and employment.

From large organic farms to private smallholdings, you can help people who don't have enough workers or those who can't do the work themselves, such as people with disabilities or older people – it's a very positive, productive way of travelling. Our caution with working in exchange for accommodation is to ensure you understand the work involved.

This isn't just so that you are sure of fulfilling your requested duties, but also to safeguard against employers who might take advantage of their free workers! Fortunately, the websites we've listed in this post list vetted hosts and offer plenty of advice and support, which should protect you from any evil farmers.

3 Ways to find Free Accommodation in Western Australia

With a great profile, excellent communication and the right attitude, "WWOOFers" and "Workawayers" can find meaningful encounters with the locals of an area. If walking someone else's dogs on the beach, going on graffiti trails with couch surfer hosts or picking oranges near Perth sounds like a unique way to spend a vacation, look at the links in this post and give it a go.

You'll be rewarded with more than just a free roof over your head. Byline: This post was written by Mark J Newton, one half of the artistic duo the Escape Artists 11:11. He and his partner Nate Evans have been living a nomadic lifestyle since 2014 but have only recently begun to document their travels. Khao Lak Diaries – 2nd Edition – Getting active in Thailand

Khao Lak Diaries – 2nd Edition – Getting active in Thailand

Better weather and good health meant it was time to get active in Thailand in the 2nd edition of beautiful Khao Lak Diaries.

The sun began to shine, and the bed that had been my sanctuary during the first part of my trip to Khao Lak was now less enticing (although I still felt a little weak). Perhaps it was the change in weather, but my body was now ready to explore. With renewed energy, I started to discover the treasures that Khao Lak had to offer, and I was not disappointed.

The surroundings were breathtaking, from the vibrant town centre to the beautiful beaches. However, the highlight of my trip was undoubtedly a visit to Phang Nga Bay. The islands, mangroves, and landscapes were nothing short of magical. As my trip drew to a close, I made it my mission to embrace every moment, whether relaxing by the Mai Khao Lak resort pool or taking a stroll through the town.

It's safe to say Khao Lak has left its mark on me, and I'll forever cherish the memories of exploring its charms. Now let's explore the second edition of our time in the tropical Thai destination.

Highlights of Khao Lak Diaries - 2nd Edition - Getting Active in Thailand

The 2nd Edition of Khao Lak Diaries is chock-full of exciting ways to get active in Thailand. Don't let the stunning beaches and relaxing atmosphere fool you - plenty of adventure can be had here.

A Longboat into Phang Nga Bay

Have you ever experienced true beauty in nature? Phang Nga Bay is an absolute gem nestled in Thailand, and it's as stunning as it gets. Embarking on an old longboat, the wind flowed through the air, providing much-needed relief to everyone from the humid conditions.

Even on an overcast day, the scenery was breathtaking as we bypassed each island in the bay - each with its hidden beaches and secrets. I was lost in a paradise I never wanted to escape. I couldn't help but ponder, "if only I had my own boat to do as I please." A day out in Phang Nga Bay is an unforgettable experience, especially if you're an adventure seeker.

I had the chance to canoe in the mangroves and through the Limestone Caves, with guides doing most of the work. It was an active day, with the other highlight, James Bond Island, and the floating markets of Panyee Island, owned by Thai Muslims. Join me to discover this paradise in Phang Nga Bay - you won't regret it.

James Bond Island

Nestled amid Thailand's crystal-clear waters lies a piece of cinematic history. The James Bond Island, made famous by the 1974 movie "The Man with the Golden Gun", has become a popular choice for tourists seeking adventure and excitement. And with good reason too! It's a spectacular setting with a lonesome rock and a hidden beach, providing the perfect backdrop for all your holiday snaps.

The vibrant overpriced markets, run by the locals, offer an authentic Thai experience for the intrepid traveller. Though our time on the island was brief, it was enough to take in the breathtaking views, soak up the sun, and admire the sheer beauty of it all. A visit to James Bond Island is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that will leave an indelible mark on your heart.

The  Khao Lak Night Markets

Regarding markets in Thailand, it's hard to pick just one. However, the Bang Niang Markets in Khao Lak should be on your list. This bustling hub in the centre of the town has everything from clothes and souvenirs to fresh fruit and veg. But the best part? Sharpening your bartering skills to snag a great deal.

With stalls, bars, and restaurants galore, you could easily spend hours wandering through this vibrant market. And make sure to stop by the fresh fruit smoothie stands - they're a refreshing treat perfect for cooling off in the Thai heat. Don't miss out on the Bang Niang Markets on your next visit to Thailand.

The Sky Bar - Khao Lak's only Rooftop Bar

If you're looking for a place to unwind and enjoy the beauty of nature, Mai Khao Lak Beach Resort's Sky Bar is worth a visit. While it's true that it's quite a distance from town and the prices may run a little high due to its resort status, nothing can compare to its breathtaking sunset view.

Imagine sipping on a finely-made cocktail while looking out towards the Andaman Sea - the perfect way to end a relaxing day. Although it may be quiet during your visit, the serene atmosphere only adds to the experience. So why not take a chance and step into this neat bar and restaurant? You'll be rewarded with a picture-perfect evening that you'll never forget.

Khao Lak Diaries – First Edition – A Wild Thailand Welcome

Khao Lak Diaries – First Edition – A Wild Thailand Welcome

Embarking on another trip has its own exciting challenges, but returning to wild Thailand is quite unique. Even though we weren't fortunate to experience the sunshine and blue skies that Thailand is famous for, the thrill of experiencing the wild side of nature was alluring. As soon as our AirAsia flight landed at the Phuket International Airport, it was evident that the weather had other plans.

Grey skies and heavy rains were our welcomed companions throughout our stay. In addition to the unpredictable weather, I experienced an illness that left me bedridden for over 24 hours. Despite having the odds against us, I reminded myself that tough times are a part of the journey, and getting sick on holiday was just a temporary setback. After all, we were in wild Thailand, and the experience was nothing short of adventurous.

Despite some setbacks at the start of my trip to Thailand, I refused to let the weather and a day in bed hinder my excitement for exploring this wild and wonderful country. With perseverance and determination, I soldiered on and was rewarded with breathtaking views and unforgettable experiences in Khao Lak.

From trekking through lush jungles to lounging on picturesque beaches, I savoured every moment and enjoyed the natural beauty of wild Thailand. It's incredible how much one can accomplish when they don't give up, and my journey to Khao Lak proved that even adverse circumstances could lead to great experiences.

Discovering Beach Towns in Khao Lak

As you head out from the resort to the beach, be prepared for a delightful surprise. Two charming beach towns are waiting to be explored; trust me, they are worth the visit! Only a short stroll from the shoreline, these towns have everything a small tourist village could offer.

These towns are bustling with activity, from various dining options to massage centres, tour agencies, market stalls, and even a currency exchange bank with decent rates. But the cherry on the cake is the price of food and drinks, almost half of what you would pay at the resort. So, don't forget to take a left or right turn and discover what these beach towns offer.

The refreshing jungle walk leading up to the waterfall provides a pleasant respite from the hot, humid weather, and the flowing stream is music to the ears. For the more daring travellers among us, taking a dip in the calm waters of this waterfall is a refreshing way to spend an afternoon. So pack your swimsuit and towel, and get ready for an unforgettable adventure in the heart of Thailand's lush jungle.

A Desire to turn a dream into Reality – Visiting Antarctica

As a seasoned traveller, I have had the privilege of visiting many countries with unique treasures and experiences.
