As soon as I stepped foot in the local markets of Fiji, I immediately felt the buzz of excitement and energy. The colourful stalls burst with fresh produce, handmade crafts, and unique trinkets. Walking through the narrow alleys, I could smell the rich aroma of traditional Fijian dishes and couldn’t help but indulge in a few bites.

Exploring the markets allowed me to immerse myself in the vibrant Fijian culture and truly appreciate the beauty of local craftsmanship. As I admired the intricate woven baskets and vibrant artwork, I couldn’t resist purchasing a few souvenirs to take home. It was a one-of-a-kind experience that I would cherish forever.

Visit a local village – Explore the local villages and witness the lifestyle of the Fijians.

It’s easy to keep to the tourist locations such as Port Denarau, the main Marina area in Fiji, with great luxury hotels, water sports, fine dining restaurants in breathtaking locations and a whole host of other activities that will make your time in Fiji all the more worthwhile. However, branching out a little is essential to see the real Fiji.

During my time in Fiji, I took a 4WD tour up into the hills for an hour drive to a local village, where we were greeted by the friendly locals who entertained us with a kava ceremony (more on that later), sang songs and the village people cooked a vegetarian lunch to complete the tour in style. No meat was provided because the locals could not afford it, but the feed was decent nonetheless.

The best part about exploring the village and witnessing their way of life is that they lived without technology and the comfort of bedding or modern facilities, which didn’t appear to make them unhappy because they were a happy bunch of people. Like most Fiji villages, they had a church and a village leader.

As I lay on the soft sand and felt the warmth of the sun on my skin, it was hard to imagine anything more peaceful and relaxing than this moment. Fiji has some of the most beautiful and tranquil spots to unwind and soak up some sun.

Whether I’m lounging at the beach, dipping in the crystal-clear waters, or perching on a rock to watch the vivid hues of the sunset, there’s something extraordinary about being in this tropical Paradise. I can’t help but feel grateful for these moments of calm amidst our fast-paced lives, and Fiji couldn’t be a perfect getaway for anyone who needs a little R&R.

Only a short bus ride from Port Denarau, Nadi is on the west side of the main island of Fiji, and if you’re staying in the area, a day trip to Nadi is a must to get a genuine vibe on how the locals of the country live their day to day life.

Nadi is a shopping district much cheaper than the tourist areas of Port Denarau, with plenty of shops on the main streets and a selection of clothing and local souvenirs to purchase on your travels. Be sure to check out the vast fruit and Vegetable market with plenty of seafood off the main street; you won’t miss it. Purchasing fruit has never come so cheap.

A visit to a local school will delight your heart when you see the happy kids strut around in their classrooms without the technology we are used to in the modern world. You might even sing a song on a good day, as anyone who knows the Fijians will realise they love to sing.

It is a great way to get out and about and see the local schools and how different they are from Western civilisation. If you want a natural reaction from the kids on your visit, bring a bag of lollies with you, but be warned, you will be swamped by kids who have a keen eye for candy.

Mud Bath and Hot Springs

I recently had the opportunity to visit a mud bath and hot springs near Nadi in mainland Fiji, and it was quite an adventure. Initially, I hesitated to jump into a pool of mud, but being the daredevil I am, I went for it. After wallowing around for a bit, I washed off in the hot springs, and it was a game changer.

Not only did I feel refreshed, but my skin felt amazing. The mud is supposed to do wonders for your skin, but I can’t say for sure. If you’re a bit of a risk-taker and up for an unorthodox spa treatment, this is worth it. Just make sure to arrange for transportation beforehand!

As soon as I landed on the islands of Fiji, I knew I had to try the famous Fijian drink that the locals can’t get enough of Kava. The taste is unique, and I can see why it won’t be for everyone, but when in Fiji, you must be willing to try everything at least once. Plus, it won’t kill you, I promise! It’s not for the faint-hearted, but I felt brave and ready to go.

There’s something special about being able to experience a drink that the people of Fiji so believe in; it’s like taking a sip of their culture and traditions. So, if you’re up for adventure and a taste of local life, I highly recommend trying Kava. Trust me, your taste buds won’t regret it!

London’s Airport is leading the way in providing a convenient, liquid-free travel experience. It recently changed regulations to no longer require passengers to keep their liquids within certain limits while passing through security. Instead, they can choose from alternative options such as storage or replacement with equivalents bought onsite.

First London Airport To Drop the 100ml Limit On Liquids

Travellers having to limit liquids to small travel-size containers and getting them out of hand luggage and electronics when going through security is one of the most unpleasant aspects of flying into the U.K.

London City airport will become one of the first airports in the U.K. to abolish the 100 ml liquid ban this April. Scraping off the rule on liquids will make travelling to the U.K. easier and more lenient for all passengers.

London City Airport is not the first U.K. Airport to scrape off the 100ml liquid limit, which has been in place since 2006. The Teeside Airport became the first in the U.K. to abandon this rule earlier this year. These alterations were after the U.K. government announced in December that it would begin incorporating new technology to scan travellers’ luggage.

The government has scheduled a deadline of August 2024 this year for all airports in the U.K. to drop the 100ml limit on liquids and adopt the new technology. Trials for new technology to scan passage bags have been in place at London Heathrow, Gatwick, and Birmingham since 2018. Hartsfield – Jackson Atlanta International Airport and O’Hare airport in Chicago are examples of airports in the United States that have employed scanning technology for years.

This new technology involves sophisticated C.T. scanners similar to those used in hospitals. The scanners eliminate the requirement that travellers empty their luggage before passing through security. The machine will identify dangerous liquids immediately after the bag is passed through the scanner, and a 3D image, more like an x-ray, is produced. The machines at most U.K. airports still provide only a 2D image.

Under the new regulations, travellers jetting in or out of the U.K. can pack up to 2 litres of liquids in their carry-on luggage. Travellers with laptops, kindles, and other electronics will not have to unload them from their bags as they pass through the scanners. Placing creams and makeup in transparent plastic bags won’t be necessary anymore as they can be scanned from your luggage.

The new technology is great news for the London city airport, which has seen a steady increase in travellers. Two hundred twenty-five thousand travellers were recorded to have used the Airport in February, compared to 217,000 in January this year. There has been an increase of 82% in travellers in the 2022 numbers.

The Airport, located east of London, is popular with travellers to the financial district of England’s capital city and has already been trialling two high-tech security lanes. Plans to have an operational third high-tech scanner by mid-march have been put in place, and a fourth scanner will be active by the end of march. This will allow thousands of travellers to enter and leave England without taking their liquids out of their bags, especially during the upcoming school holidays.

The 100 ml liquid limit regulations were implemented in 2006 following a terrorist attack where a group attempted to board a plane with explosives made of hydrogen peroxide inside soft drink bottles.

According to London City’s Chief Executive Robert Sinclair, the new lanes would reduce the hassle and the queues when checking in or out of the airports. He also added that passengers would be thrilled by the new routes.

Whatever will happen to the industry that produces mini travel products, which has flourished since the limit regulations were implemented in 2006, is still a misery. The worldwide market for travel-sized toiletries was projected to grow at 4.5% per year to reach $3.2 billion in 2030. More travellers are searching for more convenient travel-sized toiletries. A change in the U. K’s security procedure (adoption of the 3D C.T. scanners) will significantly impact the growth.
