Dumaguete Itinerary – A Guide to the Popular Philippines Destination

If you’re travelling to Dumaguete and looking for guidance on where to go, this itinerary can help you make the most of your trip. It includes some of the area’s top attractions and must-see destinations to experience Dumaguete’s best.

Explore the enchanting city of Dumaguete through this comprehensive itinerary, which will immerse you in its fascinating history, lively culture, breathtaking natural landscapes, and mouthwatering local delicacies.

Historical and Cultural Tourist Attractions in Dumaguete City

Dumaguete has a rich, colourful history spanning centuries and gets its name from “dagit”, a Cebuano word that translates to “snatch”. Dumaguete, or swoop, became apt as a name long ago since Moro pirates frequently raided the coastal town.

Here are some of the prominent historical and cultural places to go in Dumaguete:

Rizal Boulevard: Named after the Philippines’ national hero, Dr Jose Rizal, Rizal Boulevard is the city’s most distinct and iconic attraction. It’s a vast stretch of road by the sea, framed by swaying coconut and majestic acacia trees. The locals love the boulevard; by dusk, it’s buzzing with activity as people come to watch the sunset or enjoy a bite to eat while taking in the breeze.

Silliman University: Silliman University is what placed Dumaguete city on the map. It was established in 1901 by American protestant missionaries and today is a top school in the Philippines. The campus grounds are beautiful and have lots to offer a traveller: the school’s elegant yet old architecture is gorgeous, while the museums feature exciting exhibits.

Bell Tower: Another iconic landmark, the Dumaguete Bell Tower, was built in 1811 to warn the locals when pirates were approaching. It is also the oldest belfry in the Visayas region of the Philippines.

Aside from these exciting historical and cultural attractions in every Dumaguete tourist spot, many of the city’s streets feature homes, buildings, and other unchanged establishments. That’s why visiting certain areas feels like taking a step back, and that’s one of the many fantastic things about this place.

Dumaguete Sightseeing

You should have at least three days and two nights to make the most of your Dumaguete itinerary. The city and numerous nearby destinations have much to offer without requiring you to travel more than an hour.

Twin Lakes of Balinsasayao: A significant tourist attraction in Dumaguete, the Twin Lakes of Balinsasayao and Danao are two natural bodies of water perched on top of lush forest-covered mountains. Considering its popularity as a tourist attraction, it has remained pristine and untouched all these years.

Manjuyod Sandbar: Touted as the “Maldives of the Philippines”, the Manjuyod Sandbar off Bais boasts a white sandbar through the middle of the ocean. Although Philippine beaches have many shoals, the qualities are unique primarily because of their proximity to land and the sand’s colours and water. You can find great day tours from Klook to Manjuyod Sandbar.

Pulang Bato Falls: Located in Valencia Dumaguete, Pulang Bato Falls is appropriately named after its rustic, orange-red stones from which a majestic set of falls flows. Small cafes and picnic sites are nearby, making for a pleasant afternoon trip, especially if you want a respite from the tropical heat.

Casaroro Falls: A real Negros Oriental gem, Casaroro Falls is a breathtaking natural attraction. The cascades are jaw-dropping. You’ll need to go through a challenging hike over boulders and rocks, but it will be worth it during your Dumaguete trip.

Forest Camp: Forest Camp in Valencia is one of the beautiful places to visit in Dumaguete for family travel in the Philippines. It features swimming pools, forests, valleys, a camping area, wall climbing, and a zip line.

Siquijor: The Island of Fire is a tropical paradise just a 40-minute boat ride from Dumaguete. Though it’s possible to take the first boat in and the last ship out to spend the day in Siquijor, staying at least one night is the best way to experience its stunning white sand beaches, fiery sunsets, and the mystical superstition surrounding it. Click this link to find great tours in Siquijor with Klook.

Dauin: A haven for underwater photographers and divers, Dauin and its nearby reefs are abundant with rare marine life, many of which are not found anywhere else in the world. From the Dauin Resorts’ house reef to the turtle sanctuary on Apo Island, there’s more than enough underwater excitement to fill up several days of your itinerary here.

The entire coastline of Dauin is one dive resort after another, so whether you want ultra-luxurious or an affordable stay, you can have your dream dive holiday your way.

Dumaguete transportation available to the tourist

Dumaguete City, a beautiful coastal town in the Philippines, offers many modes of transportation to help you explore the city and its surroundings. The primary mode of transportation in Dumaguete City is the tricycle, which is similar to Bangkok’s famous tuk-tuk. For nearby locations within the city, fares start at just AUD 0.27, but they can get more expensive as you travel further away.

For adventurous and skilled people, renting a motorbike for the day is an option. Having a license and knowing how to drive a motorcycle is recommended. Dumaguete is primarily a motor-run city, sharing the roads with tricycles. However, driving a motorbike allows you to reach the outskirts and other destinations outside of town quickly. Always wear your helmet while going.

If you travel in a group and plan to visit many sites outside the Dumaguete travel guide, consider renting a vehicle. These are usually affordable and provide a more comfortable way for you and your group to get around. Dumaguete’s roads are well-paved and maintained, and traffic is not an issue.

Alternatively, you can also book a tour with the many travel agencies in town. It is the preferred way of sightseeing for many travellers, especially those who want to sit back and relax while a friendly tour guide leads the way. You can choose from various tours catering to different interests and budgets. Sometimes, they will take you to popular attractions, while others will take you off the beaten path to explore hidden gems not typically included in guidebooks. Whatever your preference, there is a tour that will suit you.

Where to Eat in Dumaguete

Dumaguete City is not only a beautiful place, but it is also a top destination for food lovers. The city has a great selection of affordable and delicious restaurants that offer a diverse range of cuisines. With many expatriates living in the city, you can find authentic European food in delis and restaurants. However, trying the local cuisine while you are there is a must.

To help you prepare your itinerary for Dumaguete, here are some culinary experiences you shouldn’t miss.

Painting: The painting of Dumaguete, which translates to “a place to go to warm up”, is as authentic and traditional as you’ll get to local eats. It’s the furthest thing from a restaurant; it’s just an outside portion of the public market.

However, the superstar here is the suman budbud, or budbud kabog; both are varieties of rice snacks, sometimes with a bit of cacao mixed into them and wrapped in greasy banana leaves. Ask for a cup of hot cocoa and some sweet mangoes on the side, and you’ve got yourself the ultimate Dumaguete snack.

Sans Rival Bistro: If I could say that Dumaguete Travel could do just ONE thing well (though that would be a lie because they do many things brilliantly!), it would be their sweets. Trust me; this city knows their desserts. Can you blame them? Negros Oriental and its neighbour Negros Occidental were pioneers of the sugar industry eons ago.

This fact remains evident in the abundance of dessert shops throughout town. However, only one is the king among them, the Sans Rival Bistro.

They are responsible for inventing the famous buttery, sugary delight of Silvana’s cookie and its cake counterpart, the Sans Rival. Sans Rival Bistro is an old ancestral home-turned-restaurant, once home to the lady who invented these sugary treats long ago. It’s also conveniently located at the heart of Rizal Boulevard, so come for a coffee and cake in the afternoon.

After you’ve sunk your teeth, you’ll understand it’s a cult-worthy dessert. They also offer a wide array of savoury dishes, including salads, soups, and portions of pasta; every single item on their menu is delicious.   (Tip: after eating at Sans Rival Bistro, pass by their dessert shop attached to the restaurant. It’s where you can get the Silvanas for takeaway, and don’t be surprised if the lines are long.

Hayahay Treehouse Bar: If you love seafood, don’t miss out on Hayahay Treehouse Bar. At night, it comes alive with pumping dance or reggae music, but from lunchtime onwards, it’s an excellent seafood dining joint.

A coastal town like Dumaguete would naturally have lots of seafood to offer, and this is one of the best places to get it fresh. The restaurant has several aquariums where you can choose your fish and ask them to cook it how you want. Otherwise, you can select from what’s already on the menu.

There’s much to discuss about the food scene in Dumaguete. Maybe we’ll leave that for another article entirely. Trust me when I say that you should come with an appetite.

Where to go in Dumaguete for Shopping

Surprisingly, Dumaguete has many great buys, considering it’s a province with many little-known discount shops at affordable prices.

Many will tell you to visit big cities such as Manila or Cebu for the best shopping in the Philippines. If you like a grand bargain, you’re in for a real treat in Dumaguete. Thrift shopping is enormous here, with large markets in certain city areas. An authentic Roxy backpack for AUD 1? Yes, those are some great finds you can expect during a Dumaguete food trip.

For other kinds of bargains, head over to Lee Plaza. A famous department store in central town, you will be shocked at how cheap clothes, furniture, and other handmade goods are here. That doesn’t mean they aren’t of quality artistry. You’ll be surprised at the many cheap finds here.

For all other needs, you can visit Robinson’s Place Dumaguete. This chain of shopping malls is well-known in the Philippines, so you’ll find what you need here.

Look no further than Subida Souvenirs and Handumanan for souvenir shopping in Dumaguete. You are bound to find a great bargain or ten.

A conclusion of your Dumaguete Itinerary

Dumaguete has something for everyone, from the beautiful waterfalls at Valencia to exploring Sillot Market and enjoying the nightlife downtown.

Whether you’re looking for adventure, culture or a tranquil beach escape, this exciting city offers a holiday experience. So, why not make your next Philippine excursion memorable by travelling to Dumaguete?

Hong Kong Day Trips which are Simply Eventful and Unforgettable

Hong Kong Day Trips which are Simply Eventful and Unforgettable

Hong Kong is a gift that is kept on being given to travellers.

It may be an East Asian destination, with a small inland space compared to its neighbour in China, but it’s big in terms of fascinating Hong Kong attractions that’ll delight any tourist in the region.

Hong Kong day trips are a common theme because once you leave your hotel room after a fulfilling breakfast, you won’t be back to your room until dark after exploring a specific area throughout the eventful day.

Choices were plenty with my family trip to the famous Region, Mainland China and the fabulous Shenzhen City on one side, and the unbelievable Macau ferry trip away, day tours from Hong Kong were eventful, yet exciting.

However, you don’t always need a passport to enjoy the best Hong Kong Day Trips with Lantau Island, Tsim Sha Shui or a hike at Lion Rock to keep the local adventures rolling.

Therefore, why don’t you take your notepad and pen and prepare for the upcoming Hong Kong trip?

The best Hong Kong Day Trips, which are Eventful and Unforgettable

Hong Kong is a captivating destination with many attractions catering to every traveller’s interests. Day trips in Hong Kong are particularly popular, offering a full day of exploration and adventure from morning until night. Whether visiting nearby regions like Mainland China and Shenzhen or taking a ferry to Macau, there are endless opportunities for exciting experiences. From exploring Lantau Island to wandering through Tsim Sha Tsui or hiking up Lion Rock, the local adventures in Hong Kong are diverse and memorable.

An active day at Disneyland

I have only been to one Disneyland in my life, so let me tell you this: If the other Disney’s are as good as the Hong Kong edition, then I have been missing out in a big way.

You have to forget the price for a moment because you’re not going to visit Hong Kong all the time. Once you enter through the gates of Disneyland, you are in for an epic day out that will last well until the sun has come down.

A fun adventure is a sure thing while you explore different worlds in Disneyland such as Adventure Land, Toy Story Land and Tomorrow Land, to name a few of the various themed lands available.

While out & about enjoying the sights of the glamorous theme park and experiencing the many dizzying rides, you’ll also get side-tracked by Live shows throughout the day, with Festival of the Lion King and the “We Love Mickey” projection show, a must-see event.

You’ll love the atmosphere along Main Street, where there is a carnival all day and night, with plenty of parades and live events. It’s the central location where you’ll find the best Disneyland souvenirs and buy a bite for lunch, although many specialty restaurants are in the park.

If you are seeking the cheapest tickets to Disneyland, you can’t beat Klook. They provide fantastic one-day passes and meal vouchers. You’ll save plenty of money purchasing through this method, especially if you buy multiple tickets.

Hong Kong Disneyland Review

We are walking along Main Street in Disneyland Hong Kong.

Take in the glitz and the glamour of Macau.

I would recommend spending more than a day in Macau to fully explore the destination’s tourist attractions, which include many casinos, heritage buildings, cathedrals, and lively street thoroughfares.

However, when time doesn’t suffice with your crowded Hong Kong Itinerary, a day trip to Macau will be more than enough to explore the glitzy city, and there are ample opportunities to get a lot out of a one-day trip to Macau from Hong Kong.

A great way to see the best of Macau is via the Hop-on, Hop-off bus service, which will take you to all the best attractions, including Venetian Macau and the Gondola rides, Galaxy Macau, The Ruins of St Paul, The Fisherman’s Wharf, and The Macau Tower, to mention only a few.

Because, with this intended purpose, you’re only spending one day in Macau, you’ll want to stay until dark and check out the lavish nightlife of the vibrant area as the casinos take centre stage with gambling, live shows and an epic night out of drinking and fine dining.

Don’t fear about missing the last ferry. The previous cruise back to Hong Kong will depart Macau Ferry terminal at midnight, and if all else fails, the first-morning boat will leave at 7 a.m., meaning you could turn it into an all-night bender.

A Ferry trip to Cheung Chau

The picturesque Cheung Chau Island is one of the best attractions for your Hong Kong trip.

Especially when you have had enough of the busy city area and want to head to the perfect island that offers culture, an excellent seafood feast and a bit of tropical life with stunning beaches and seaside bars.

Cheung Chau is around 50 minutes from Hong Kong Island by Ferry, making it the perfect day trip from Hong Kong. During your day trip, you can enjoy several hours of sightseeing and see plenty of the main tourist places.

Once on the active island, you can wander through the township with stacks of marketplaces for souvenir buying, and you’ll also find many cafés, including McDonald’s, where you can rest up with a hot or cold drink of your choice.

For all the seafood lovers out there, I am sure there are many. In Cheung Chau, there are many seafood restaurants with great views, making it the perfect opportunity to drink cold beer, enjoy a good meal, and take in the atmosphere around you.

Other things to do in Cheung Chau include fun in the sun at Tung Wan Beach, viewing hidden temples that appear at random, witnessing the Mini Great Wall, being genuinely mesmerised by extraordinary coastal views and checking out the best lookout points on the island that oversee Cheung Chau.

Cross the border to Shenzhen City – China.

If you’re going on a Shenzhen day trip from Hong Kong, be sure to follow the steps for obtaining a China Visa with this helpful article. Otherwise, you could end up like me in a world of confusion, wasting valuable Shenzhen City time.

Eventually, everything went well in getting our Visas, and we crossed the border for our Shenzhen day trip. However, for a smoother path, you must catch the Hong Kong train to the Lok Ma Chau MTR, which is the main border gate with a Chinese Visa office to Mainland China.

Our day in Shenzhen was quite limited, but we appreciated the affordable cost of everything in the city, from fantastic dining prices to transportation by train around the city. It is that much cheaper than Hong Kong.

For your time in Shenzhen, consider visiting the Ping Am Financial Centre, the fourth tallest building in the World, and the magnificent Observatory Deck, which is 562-metres in height.

Other things to do in your Shenzhen trip include visiting the Splendid China Folk Village, Overseas Chinese Town, and Lianhuashan Park, among many other vibrant attractions.

Sometimes, the best day trips during your holiday are those you don’t have to travel too far to reach, even closer, if you are staying on Hong Kong Island.

Most of your time on Hong Kong Island will be at Victoria Peak. In this famous tourist area, you can catch the Victoria Peak tram to the popular tourist destination and capture the best views over the stunning Victoria Harbour.

To continue your presence at Victoria Peak, you can go to the Peak Tower for shopping, dining, amusements, and an Observation Sky terrace with excellent 360-degree views of Hong Kong. You can also keep fit at the Peak with many walking trails to enjoy more outdoor fun in Hong Kong.

Away from the Peak, on Hong Kong Island, you can wander many luxurious shopping malls with top-class dining, enjoy horse racing at Happy Valley, and have a splashing fun day at Ocean World. You can walk along the Promenade to glimpse Tsim Sha Tsui on the other side of the Harbour and capture the dazzling Symphony of Lights show at 8 pm every evening.

Yes, Disneyland is on Lantau Island, but it’s not feasible to explore the other parts of Lantau Island and visit Mickey Mouse and friends at Disneyland on the same day.

Therefore, I recommend that you catch a train to the island a second time and check out the rest of the activities at Lantau.

The best way to continue your Hong Kong Tour on Lantau Island is to catch a train, MTR Tung Chung Station. This station is the home of Ngong Ping Cable Cars, where you can have an excellent cable ride over Lantau and witness more incredible Hong Kong views.

The best way to purchase the tickets for the cable cars is to buy through Klook; it means you’ll not have to stand in lines longer than necessary, as the wait to get on the cable cars can take a while.

Once you admire the views from the Cable Car and arrive on the other side at Ngong Ping Village, another world awaits you with a fascinating cultural Village where you can eat various local foods and purchase a few Ngong Ping souvenirs.

Once you are past the Village area, it’s time to check out the giant Tian Tan Buddha that caught your attention early during your time at Ngong Ping. The Tian Tan Buddha sits on top of 268 steps, and the views up top are quite incredible as you look over the Village and the Po Lin Monastery below.

However, as times change, so do our desires for comfort, and the best travel footrest will undoubtedly assist you in many ways, in terms of comfortability for the traveller who needs to have their legs raised during a long flight or in a bus trip across the country for long hours.

Let’s discuss the added advantages of purchasing an Inflatable travel footrest. Then, we’ll show you a selection of the best footrests available on Amazon to further enhance your travel shopping experience and assist you in making a smart purchase.

Perhaps you don’t need an inflatable travel footrest at this vantage point, but who knows!

The advantages of Purchasing the Inflatable travel footrest

Before we get into the best footrest available on the Amazon market, we’ll discuss the advantages of having an inflatable footrest for your next trip.

A versatile Travel Gear

The travel footstool serves many purposes beyond simply providing comfort for tired feet. Depending on your specific footrest pillow, it can also function as a soft and comfortable place for children to relax and unwind. Furthermore, it can provide a cozy spot for young infants to take a peaceful nap during flights, road trips, or extended train journeys.

Easy inflation or Deflation

When choosing an aeroplane footrest, look for one that offers easy inflation and Deflation. A quality footrest can be fully inflated in 15-20 seconds and deflated quickly, allowing you to pack it away before the flight ends. This ensures that you can get comfortable without inconveniencing other passengers.

The best footrest is soft and relaxing.

When considering the purchase of an inflatable travel footrest, finding a product that effectively serves its intended purpose is essential. The market offers a variety of comfortable, competitively priced footrests made from soft and durable materials, ensuring that you can easily relax during your travels by air or bus.

The footrest pillow can fit between cramped seats.

When flying with budget airlines, passengers often face cramped and uncomfortable seating arrangements. Limited legroom can be a significant issue, with passengers feeling like their knees are practically touching the seat in front of them. Fortunately, aeroplane footrests are available on the market and are designed to fit into tight spaces, ensuring that your travel cushion won’t inconvenience other passengers.

Easy to pack for your trip

Inflatable items are convenient to store because they can be deflated to a compact size. Despite not being large, the travel footrest effortlessly fits into your backpack or carry-on bag and can be easily removed whenever needed.

The inflatable travel footrest is affordable.

You don’t have to break the bank when purchasing a travel footrest. Many high-quality options available on Amazon are reasonably priced, typically ranging from $20 to $40. Once you purchase, you’ll quickly be ready to elevate your travel experiences.

A critical piece of advice is to thoroughly research and ensure that the footrest you choose meets your personal needs and the requirements of the airline you’ll be flying with. It’s worth noting that certain airlines may not permit inflatable footrests on the market. However, this shouldn’t discourage you, as plenty of options are approved for use.

Why Bundi in India Should Be on Your Radar as a Tourist Destination

Why Bundi in India Should Be on Your Radar as a Tourist Destination

Authored by Alexandra Wrigley

When you envision Northern India, you most likely imagine a hectic state and an assault on your senses. You probably picture vast volumes of traffic and noise coming from many different directions.

You’re right, except for the town of Bundi, India, a beautiful blue tranquil village in Rajasthan. Unlike some cities in India, this town is not vastly populated, averaging approximately 104,000 inhabitants. It’s 210km from Jaipur, equating to a 3-4-hour car or bus journey.

The royal blue buildings of Bundi give you a sense of a smaller-scaled Jodhpur. However, this destination is unlike most in India—the laid-back atmosphere of the South with the history and culture of the North.

Bundi Rajasthan is not the typical tourist destination when visiting the North. Compared to cities such as Jodhpur, Jaipur, Agra, Varanasi, Jaisalmer and others. However, it should be on your radar as it has many spectacular attractions and bazaars full of rich history.

Why Bundi in India Should Be on Your Radar

Nestled in the remote hills of Rajasthan, Bundi is a beautiful blue town that deserves a spot on your travel itinerary. Although it receives fewer visitors than some of India’s other tourist destinations, Bundi is well worth a visit for its tranquillity, stunning architecture, and idyllic setting.

The town is built around a lake, which reflects the blue hues of the sky and houses a beautiful palace at its centre. Bundi’s buildings are adorned with intricate murals and carvings, making it one of the most picturesque towns in India.

In addition to its visual appeal, Bundi is home to some of Rajasthan’s best-preserved temples and forts. If you’re looking to escape the hustle and bustle of India’s cities, Bundi is the perfect place to relax and recharge.

Taragarth Fort and Palace

Another main attraction is its palace, which voyeurs see over the town, and attached is the Taragarth Fort. To visit, you have to journey up a steep slope, which is quite rocky and not the best of terrain.

Yet, rest assured, the fatigue is worth it. Once at the top, you’ll enter through a tall wooden door. Throughout the Fort are original intricate carved statues and accurate gold-painted murals adding to the palace’s history. Finally, you’ll reach the top of the Fort, where you will be pleasantly treated to breathtaking 360-degree views of Bundi.

Similarly, you may notice monkeys clambering from one blue roof to another. If you are to visit, have an object like a stick ready to poke the monkeys away from stealing your valuables!

Moreover, the Fort showcases fabulous views of the Nawal Sagar lake. Unfortunately, not much work has been done by the government to conserve the ancient building constructed in 1345. Nevertheless, it’s also a rarity for a traveller to witness such a historical structure in its original form.

Jait Sagar Lake

Nestled atop a serene lake adorned with enchanting lotus flowers, the Sukh Mahal palace sits. It served as the summer retreat for Rudyard Kipling, the renowned author of The Jungle Book. Legend has it that he found inspiration while crafting his novel Kim within the walls of this captivating palace.

The best time to visit the lake is early evening; as the sky sets, it gives the lake and lakeside a charming ambience. Locals unwind around the lakeside, revelling in optimum serenity, and hippopotamuses bask in the water. The tranquil vibe makes it different and unique from other hectic destinations in India.

Step Wells Bundi

Bundi is home to some incredible hand-dug ancient step wells. In former times, they were assembled to retain water and for locals to undergo religious bathing. The architecture of each step well is purely captivating. You can climb down to the bottom of the well and explore the ever-multiplying steps.

The architecture of eaStepwellell is unique and varies from one to another. One of Bundi’s most renowned Stepwells is the Ranji Ki Baori, constructed in 1699 by a young queen. It’s an excellent example of girl power! TStepwell’sl’s architecture is quite impressive, featuring intricately carved stone elephant sculptures.

If you’re visiting India, you must check out the quiescent town of Bundi. It is a fantastic, mellow break from the frenzy of overpopulated northern Indian cities.

Nomads also visit attractions that are not commonly known to the average tourist. Because tourists don’t see that often, when they do, locals go out of their way to make you feel welcome. Even though it’s not a typical tourist destination, you will still find a place to crash your head for the evening.

I recommend you stay at a heritage home known as a haveli. Why? You will feel like you’re a king or queen. Kings and queens once owned the royal architecture and history of these places. They are an attraction, and you’ll be spending the night there.

If you visit, make sure you speak to the owner or manager to discover the haveli’s history fully. Bundi is a destination you must visit and see for yourself. It’s also a nice break from the other typical Rajasthani cities. If more travellers like you and me were to visit, it would generate more attention.

It also proves to the government that extra work should be undertaken to conserve Bundi’s resources. If this occurs, one day, it could put Bundi back on the map and allow a range of generations worldwide to be educated about Bundi’s rich heritage, never letting its history die out.
