12 Things to Do for a Perfect Romantic Escape in Bali

If you’re looking for a romantic getaway in Asia, there’s no better place than Islands of God. Bali has something for everyone with its stunning beaches, lush jungles, and sacred temples. Here are nine things to do in Bali for the perfect romantic escape:

1. Stretch out at the mystical Tjampuhan Spa

When finding the perfect spot for a romantic spa getaway, look no further than the Tjampuhan riverside spa in Bali. This sacred space offers more than just a relaxing day of pampering; it’s a place where you can truly heal and rejuvenate your mind, body, and soul. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw the hot and cold spring jacuzzi situated in a magical, mythical stone cavern.

The water gushing forth was beyond soothing, and adding in the stunning surroundings was like a dream. And the best part? You can experience it all with your loved one by your side. They say elephants never forget, and I’ll never forget the unique attraction of the Elephant Safari Park that adjoins the spa. From the treatment rooms, you can catch glimpses of these gentle giants. It’s the perfect view for an ideal escape.

2. Enjoy an evening of Fairytale Cuisine

I must admit, when it comes to dining, I’m always looking for something different that shakes things up a bit. And let me tell you, Frankenstein’s Laboratory in Bali epitomises others. Who wouldn’t want to dine among zombies, pirates, and Frankenstein himself? This place is weird, wild, and romantic all rolled into one.

Frankenstein’s Laboratory is the perfect choice for couples seeking an unforgettable evening of high-class fun. And it gets even better – as the night wears on, the monsters come alive, terrifying you until you scream for mercy. Don’t worry; all the horror is balanced with live music, creepy cocktails, and monster bites. Oh, and did I mention the monster band? Vampires and mummies, people – it doesn’t get much cooler than that.

3. Visit the sea of gold at Desa Belok

As I drove from Bedugul to Kintamani, I could never have imagined what I was about to see. What lay before me was a breathtaking sight that I will never forget. The Desa Belok fields of marigolds, also known as the sea of gold, were awe-inspiring. As a lover of flowers, their brilliant orange and yellow hues took my breath away. But, as I soon discovered, these marigolds are more than just a feast for the eyes.

Standing surrounded by this sea of gold, I felt an electrifying sense of wonder. For the Balinese people, they are an essential offering to the Supreme Balinese God. If you’re ever in the area, I urge you to take a short fifteen-minute drive to experience the beauty of these stunning marigold fields.

4. Stroll along the Campuhan Ridge

As my partner and I set off on our romantic escape in Bali, the soft light of the rising sun casts a warm glow over the picturesque rice fields and quaint villages we passed. I remember the feeling of stepping onto the Campuhan Ridge trail in Bali and being instantly enchanted by the stunning natural beauty surrounding me. It was like stepping into a movie set – a beautiful and surreal experience.

As we walked and talked, enjoying each other’s company, I couldn’t help but feel grateful for this moment and the opportunity to experience this unusually romantic walk along Campuhan Ridge. It was a memory we would always treasure, a testament to Bali’s stunning beauty and peacefulness. With nobody else around, save for the occasional butterfly; we felt like we had this enchanting path.

The 100-candle dinner service is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that is hard to describe – it is something you must experience for yourself. So if you’re looking for a romantic escape in Bali, add Swept Away to your bucket list – trust me, you won’t regret it.

7. Pamper her for a night at the Kamuela Villas

As someone who loves a good romantic escape, Bali is the ultimate destination. Offering many romantic activities and peaceful moments to share with your loved one, it’s no wonder Bali has a reputation for being a romantic getaway. For the ultimate couple’s retreat, look no further than Kamuela Villas.

With their private pools and luxurious indoor tubs, you can create the most romantic evenings imaginably. And located in Seminyak, you’ll have easy access to all the best restaurants and bars for a beautiful night out.

8. Have a picnic at Bukit Asah Bugbug

I recently discovered a romantic escape in Bali that took my breath away. Nestled in the hills of Bukit Adah, this hidden paradise offers breathtaking views of the Indian Ocean that will leave you in awe. From the coral reefs to the scattered islands, it’s the perfect place to watch the sunrise and fall deeply in love with your significant other.

I couldn’t have asked for a better place to escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. My partner and I enjoyed a romantic picnic while overlooking the crystal blue waters and instantly connected with nature. We also took a hike along the hillside, and the views were even more stunning. This secret spot will provide an unforgettable experience for couples looking for a romantic getaway in Bali.

9. Chill out at the Tamblingan Lake

Bali has always been on my bucket list as someone constantly searching for new and exciting romantic escapes. And let me tell you; it did not disappoint. The sheer beauty of this island destination is nothing short of breathtaking, and Tamblingan Lake is a big part of that charm. It’s the perfect place for couples looking for a serene getaway.

Bali truly is a magical place, and Tamblingan Lake is the perfect spot to enjoy each other’s company and create memories that will last a lifetime. The lake’s untouched beauty is mesmerising, and renting a boat for a leisurely row is an experience you’ll surely cherish forever. Plus, if you’re planning a wedding or a pre-wedding photoshoot, the surrounding area offers plenty of opportunities for stunning photography.

10. Visit the Uluwatu Temple

Have you ever dreamt of travelling to Bali with your loved one? Bali is where romance is in the air, and the Uluwatu Temple is one of the most romantic things to do in Bali. I was blown away by the stunning views of the Indian Ocean from the temple’s cliff. Watching the sunset over the ocean with my partner was an incredibly romantic experience.

If you plan a romantic trip to Bali, add the Uluwatu Temple to your itinerary. The calm and peaceful atmosphere of the temple added to the romantic ambience. It’s truly a romantic paradise!

11. Watch the Sunset at Tanah Lot

Watching the sunset at Tanah Lot in Bali was an unforgettable experience for someone who loves romantic adventures. The temple’s location on a rock formation in the ocean made for a stunning backdrop as the sun gently descended into the horizon. The tranquil atmosphere and the sounds of the waves crashing against the rock were both soothing and mesmerising, and it was easy to lose track of time while taking in this natural beauty.

Additionally, the traditional Balinese dance performance only added to the magic of this moment. From start to finish, watching the sunset at Tanah Lot was quickly one of the most romantic things I have ever done in Bali.

12. Watch a Traditional Balinese Dance Performance

One of my favourite romantic things to do in Bali is to watch a traditional Balinese dance performance with my partner. The intricate movements and colourful costumes of the dancers are mesmerising to watch. And the accompanying gamelan music provides the perfect atmosphere for a romantic evening out. There are many different venues, so it’s easy to find a performance that fits your itinerary.

Plus, getting a taste of Balinese culture through dance and music is a unique and memorable experience you will never forget.

A Conclusion to the Perfect Romantic Escape in Bali

Bali has long been known as one of the most romantic destinations in the world, and it’s not hard to see why. Meeting the Locals – Bali, Indonesia Edition

Meeting the Locals – Bali, Indonesia Edition

Meeting the locals is one of the best experiences on any adventure in any foreign country. It is right up there alongside discovering a hidden beach, coming across a raging waterfall, or hiking through famous landscapes, where the scenery is nothing short of sensational.

Travelling is more than discovering a country’s beauty, a trait we understandably get lost in. A country’s values often come from its people, the locals. The very same folk who make the country we visit that much more memorable.

Therefore, I ask, do you ever stop to have a good chat with the locals on vacation? Not just a basic “G’day, how you are doing” chat. But a genuine conversation. It may surprise you what you can learn about an individual and their upbringing in the country they are from. I can guarantee you at times; it will be fascinating.

In this new series of Meet the Locals. I will take you to different countries and introduce you to the fantastic men and women I have met on my adventures. In this edition, I headed to Bali, where I had the privilege to meet some great people who made my visit more enjoyable.

Hari

Hari, in the middle, works the bar at the Sakala.

Meeting the Locals – Bali – Indonesia

Get ready to mingle with the cool cats of Bali, Indonesia! This adventure is about meeting the locals and learning their way of life. We promise lots of belly laughs, cultural immersion, and unforgettable memories. Join us, and let’s make some new friends!

Meeting Wadi at Monkey Cave Ubud

If you’re ever in Ubud, stop at The Monkey Cave. This little coffee box is home to the best brew in Bali, all thanks to one man – Wadi. As the shop’s barrister, Wadi takes great pride in his work and craftsmanship. He’s been perfecting his coffee craft for over a year, and it shows in every cup he makes.

What’s more, Wadi makes an hour-long trip each day to get to work simply because he loves what he does. His passion shines through every sip of his coffee, and he’s always up for a chat with customers worldwide. So if you’re looking for top-class coffee and a friendly face, stop by The Monkey Cave and say “hi” to Wadi – the best barrister in Bali, maybe even beyond.

Chatting with Hari at The Sakala Resort

Sitting by the pool bar at Sakala Resort, I enjoyed chatting with Hari, an honest and hardworking employee. He shared his hopes and dreams of becoming an Indonesian coast guard. Despite enjoying his job at the resort, Hari longs for a different life.

He taught me about his upbringing in Bali, sharing stories of his humble beginnings on a small wage. I was impressed by his knowledge of Indonesia’s strict customs and rules. Our conversations were genuinely fascinating, and we became friends on Facebook. I wished him the best of luck in his pursuit to join the coast guard and am grateful for the insight into life in Bali that Hari provided.

Meeting the locals

I was catching up with a few locals on the streets.

My very own personal driver – Wayan

I met an older man Wayan by chance (Wayan is a popular name in Indonesia), walking the streets of Tanjung Benoa. It is not hard in Bali to find a driver; the hurdle is negotiating a fair price. Anyway, Wayan became my driver after a brief chat, and the rest became history, taking me to Ubud and then to the airport when it was time to leave the country.

It was a pleasure to meet Wayan and an honour to make him my brief driver during my stay in Bali. Wayan was bubbly on the streets, telling me about his wife of over thirty years and his two kids. Yet he was concrete on the road and focused on navigating Bali’s busy streets, ensuring I safely got to my next destination in Ubud. I certainly got his contact details for future visits.

And a whole lot more where that came from.

They were a few of the notable locals I met in Bali. However, meeting the locals in Bali ran more profound than that. Bali is full of great, honest people who are more than worth your time if you give them a chance. General workers on the street are willing for a photo or a pretty waitress in the restaurant happy to serve you a beer. Happy travels.

Have you met some great locals on your adventures? Please comment below and let me know and let me know about your experience when meeting the locals.

Bali Diaries 2017 – Day 4-6: Getting into the Heart of Culture in Ubud

Bali Diaries 2017 – Day 4-6: Getting into the Heart of Culture in Ubud

Culture in Ubud, it sound about right whenever venturing into Bali and that is exactly what I was seeking during my travels on the Indonesian Island.

This was the second and last leg of my Solo Bali trip. Too short for any holiday in Bali, but it was a business trip reviewing stunning hotels in Bali, and who can possibly complain about such work. As mentioned, this time my work took me to Ubud all the way from beaches of Tanjung Benoa.

An area of Bali I had heard so much about but never been to before. Thankfully on this Bali trip, I had the chance to see view this gorgeous inland destination of Bali, because Ubud was everything I hoped and much more.

If you missed the Tanjung Benoa edition of Bali Diaries, you can read it here, but for now, let culture take us the rest of the way in Ubud, for the second edition of my adventures in Bali.

Bali Diaries 2017 – Day 4-6: Getting into the Heart of Culture in Ubud

Best bit of the Ubud Bali trip

The Legong and Barong Balinese Dance: The best $7.50 I spent on Bali this trip. Yes, that is all it cost to watch a traditional and cultural Balinese dance called the Legong and Barong Dance. A series of different events and fantastic local music and a great performance.

It starts with lovely welcome dance by the beautiful Balinese women (very pretty indeed), to an epic and somewhat creepy warrior dance. It leads to a great finale with  a Barong Dance, which is about a warrior whose occupation is a hunter, with mis-fortunate and comical events.

While there are many different traditional dances in Ubud, make sure you get to at least one during your Bali vacation, because you will be satisfied you did, because it is just the culture in Ubud you need to witness.

Where I stayed in Ubud

The Alaya Resort – The very wonderful Alaya Resort, quite Boutique and stunning amongst the pretty landscapes of a wonderful resort. Especially the Manisan Restaurant that is in the middle of the lush rice fields. It all looks spectacular.

Once you get off the busy streets of Ubud and into the lobby, it turns intopure luxury. From the stunning Indonesian designed deluxe rooms, to the beautiful gardens and glamorous swimming pools, in it indeed a resort that almost heavenly. The stay was perfect and keep at look out for the Alaya Resort if ever in the area, because you’ll just love this fine resort.

The Main Highlights of the Ubud Trip

–  Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary: A short stay is a good stay at the Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary and for $5 it is worth the entry price. The monkeys are well and truly alive, inside and outside the enclosure, fighting amongst themselves, scrambling for food and even jumping all over their guest. That’s right us humans.

It will only take about an hour to walk through the forest, as monkeys are running amuck and doing their thing. If you buy a few bananas, they well be jumping on your shoulders too in eagerness to grab a feed. Try not to panic and force them off you, they may decide to take a bite at you. But in general, it is a safe little forest to escape the busy streets of Ubud. Enjoy it.

You’ll see many monkeys during your time in the Monkey forest.

–  Walking the Ubud town centre: Ubud is a lively little town centre, especially for a Bali town so far from the coast. Boutique market stalls, jewellery stalls, plenty of restaurants, café’s for WIFI hit and plenty of massage parlours for relaxation. It’s even great to wander the town and see the temples and great sculptures that represents the main religion in Bali. A very pretty town, no doubt.

The most memorable part of my time in Ubud was meeting local man Wadi. A local barrister who runs a small coffee shop, The Monkey Cave. It was great to have a chat and the cappuccino was superb. You can find this little coffee box a stone throw from the Monkey forest.

It was short and sweet but that wraps up my Bali 2017 trip, it was a beauty where I spent my time in luxury, and check the link to read more of Fair Dinkum Traveller’s Travel Diaries.

It was clear that every detail had been carefully considered to provide a truly relaxing atmosphere.

Once inside the treatment room, my professional masseuse ushered me to the cozy massage table and invited me to choose my healing massage. With soft music playing in the background, I fully relaxed and enjoyed the pampering experience. It was indeed the perfect way to unwind and rejuvenate.

Fair Dinkum Traveller Review

What a fantastic time I had at the Sakala Resort! I felt pampered by the lovely staff and top-notch amenities upon arrival. The dining options were simply superb, leaving me spoiled for choice. And let me tell you about the Balinese Massage – utterly relaxing and rejuvenating. The highlight of my stay, however, was my comfortable king-size bed. It was like sleeping on a cloud! But the cherry on top was undoubtedly the swimming pool. It was an absolute dream for any water lover out there.

Overall, I can confidently say that my stay at Sakala was one I will never forget. Every aspect of the Resort exudes luxury, and it’s apparent how much dedication and effort the staff put into ensuring their guest’s an unforgettable time in Tanjung Benoa.
