Handy Advice for Getting Ready for an Overseas Adventure

Handy Advice for Getting Ready for an Overseas Adventure

You are all geared up and ready to go on your next trip.

The big overseas adventure you have been planning is just around the corner. At first, you panic. Is everything in order, flights, passports and Visas? Do you know about the area you are visiting? Are you aware of any customs that may seem strange to you? Or any major religious holiday or political event is coming up that could dampen your holiday.

The adventure doesn't begin when you board the plane; a little planning is necessary, starting when you book the flight and your accommodation. Planning that may save you from a bit of crisis while on your much-anticipated holiday with your family and friends; it's all about getting ready for your overseas adventure.

Therefore, save any embarrassment and make a checklist by reading the list below, and see if you are ready for your overseas adventure.

You never know; there may be something important on the list that you may have forgotten.

Handy Advice for Getting Ready for an Overseas Adventure

Going on an overseas adventure is an exhilarating experience, yet prepping for the journey can be overwhelming. Planning and being organized are crucial to having an enjoyable trip. Here are a few handy pieces of advice to help you prepare for your overseas journey.

Are your flight details in order?

Handy advice for preparing for an overseas adventure includes double-checking your flight details before leaving. It may sound like a no-brainer, but overlooked details can be costly. Make sure your flights are booked, the associated dates are correct, and you'll sit together on the plane if that is important to you.

Remember to pay special attention to budget airlines regarding seating, as they often assign passengers seats during check-in or boarding. A few minutes of double-checking your flight details could save you time and money later on!

Are your Passports prepared?

Always ensure that your passport is up-to-date and valid when travelling abroad. A visa with less than six months validity remaining may be refused entry in many countries, so it is essential to double-check the expiry date before you purchase a ticket or even reach the departure gate.

Seeing your travel dreams dashed because of a forgotten passport renewal can be a huge disappointment, so it's always better to ensure you're prepared in advance and avoid feeling frustrated at the last moment. A quick check of your passport will help guarantee you won't miss out on any planned activities. All that remains is for you to enjoy an unforgettable journey!

Do you need a Visa where you're going?

Travelling without paying customs fees seems like the perfect dream come true, and it is in many countries. But travellers need to be aware as not all countries will let you breeze through passport control. Countries like Laos, Vietnam or India require a fee in advance - usually payable in US dollars - which can be easily found by conducting simple research online.

You won't have sticker shock standing at the ticket booth! Not only that, but it's essential to ascertain whether credit cards are accepted for payment. It pays to do your homework beforehand, so your trip abroad will remain stress-free and budget friendly.

Do you have travel Insurance? You Better!

People often think travel insurance is a waste of money, "nothing went wrong, so why did I get it." That is a good thing when travel goes to plan, and there are no sudden emergencies. The question is, what happens when things do go wrong?

Things can go wrong while overseas, and travel insurance needs to be essential in today's travel. Can you afford the added medical bills? Or the added flight fees? Protecting yourself, your family, and your bank account costs nothing.

Learn some local phrases in the local language.

No, I am not telling you to start learning a whole language, but a few common words that are general in any language won't go astray.

Even if you're not ready to learn an entire language, having a few essential words and phrases of courtesy can go a long way when travelling in distant places. Knowing critical terms such as hello, goodbye, thank you, you're welcome, excuse me, and how much it is will make communicating with people who don't share the same language easier.

It also shows that you are polite and respectful of their culture; locals will be more likely to open up and help if they sense your respect. Whether travelling for leisure or business, having common phrases will allow travellers to get the most out of their trip.

Know a little about the area you're visiting.

Few things are more exciting than an overseas adventure that takes you to new and unexpected destinations. You must know the places you will visit to get the most out of your journey.

From researching the top restaurants to discovering the hidden gems in local shopping centres or finding fun attractions or activities unique to where you're going, having a plan can make all the difference between making an excellent memory and barely scratching the surface of another culture.

Research before stepping abroad is crucial for an unforgettable overseas experience.

Know the Laws and Customs of the country you're visiting.

Respect for the laws and customs of a foreign country is paramount when travelling abroad. Not only will it make your stay more enjoyable, but it could also save you from inadvertently committing an offence. Many facets of culture may seem strange or different to what you're used to, but as the guest in this new destination, it is up to you to adjust and adhere to specific rules.

Tourists should be aware of public holidays, local activities, and sites since many shops and resorts may be closed during such times. There can also be significant political events that could have an impact on your travel experience. Being informed is the best way to ensure a safe and exciting overseas adventure.

Research activities and day trips

Visiting a new place can often be a fun yet overwhelming experience. Knowing what is on offer in the location you see will make your adventure even more enjoyable.

A little research and preparation could lead you to discover hidden gems or thrilling experiences you wouldn't find without adequately exploring the destination ahead of time. With that said, utilizing technology can go a long way in ensuring you don't miss out on all the epic day trips and exciting attractions your holiday destination has to offer!

However, take caution when booking as you will be able to save an insane amount of money by instead reserving activities once you're already within the country. Your wallet will thank you later, and so will your unforgettable memories!

Download helpful Apps

Have you been trying to plan the perfect overseas adventure but feeling overwhelmed by what you should and shouldn't do when travelling? Fear not; many travel Apps at your fingertips can provide invaluable advice and tips. With some research into the types of Apps available for your destination, you can find one that best suits your needs.

Notable ones include TripAdvisor for reviews on hotels and experiences, Google Maps for navigation and Smart Traveller, which gives up-to-date warnings on potential risks when travelling in certain countries. With the right App, you will have a stress-free and safe experience while travelling abroad.

So don't delay any further - research some travel Apps today before jetting off on your overseas adventure!

In Conclusion, Handy Advice for Getting Ready for an Overseas Adventure

In conclusion, embarking on an overseas adventure is a rewarding and worthwhile experience. Preparation is critical to ensuring the trip runs smoothly; this includes researching the destination country's culture, language, and customs, using travel insurance to protect against unexpected contingencies, budgeting wisely for the duration of the trip, leaving itineraries and contact information with family or friends at home, familiarizing yourself with transportation methods in your destination country and what currency you may need.

Taking these steps will help ensure that your overseas journey is remarkable as it should be!

The Guide of the Tour

There's something extraordinary about a great tour guide; this English-speaking guide was no exception. As we embarked on our journey along the Mekong River, he wasted no time captivating our attention with his wealth of knowledge about the area. His sense of humour only added to the experience, as we learned about the four islands most uniquely and engagingly possible.

What stood out the most was his professionalism; he spoke with confidence and authority, and it was clear that he took pride in his role as a guide. If you're looking for an unforgettable trip along the Mekong River, this guide is someone you won't want to miss.

Naturally, which tour operator you get depends on which group you are with on any given day. But I hear most go that extra effort to entertain their guest and give you the best value on your day trip from Saigon.

Cruising the Mekong River

Cruising the Mighty Mekong River is an incredible feeling; a well-known river begins in the Himalayas andgoesy through Laos, Thailand, and Cambodia before finishing in Vietnam. It's an experience to be near a famous river in Southeast Asia and cruise on slow boats while admiring the views. The Mekong River is a must-see for anyone visiting Southeast Asia. The river is an integral part of the region's culture and history.

The crocodile-filled section of the river around the Four Islands Mekong may not have the gorgeous scenery; the murky waters and the commercial boats can be a little off-putting as they are everywhere. It is essential to look past it and admire the Mekong for what it truly is. The Mekong River is an integral part of Southeast Asian culture and history. It is a must-see for anyone visiting the region.

Coconut Candy Mekong Style

It is fascinating to watch the locals make their coconut candy without the luxuries of a factory, from shredding the coconut into powder to mixing and packaging. It is a detailed process with mainly female workers involved, who work quickly to get the job done and in a proficient matter.

On the taste, if coconut candy itself, it's okay, but they are cheap, and why not reward those hard-working women by purchasing a pack of six? They could make great gifts for relatives who love their candy back home. The hard work in creating these candies is worth the purchase, and you would be supporting local businesses. So next time you need a sweet treat, consider checking out the local coconut candy.

Unicorn Island

Unicorn Island is one of the many enticing islands on the Mekong River. It's here where most of the tour activities take place. From learning how to make and try honey tea to posing with a giant python snake, there's plenty to do on Unicorn Island.

One of the day's highlights is when the local villagers take the group on a canoe ride through the canals. Surrounded by palm trees and local housing, it's a welcome relief from the heat. Plus, being in full shade protects against getting too sunny.

While more enjoyable amongst pretty scenery, the canoe ride can get annoying when the villagers beg more for a tip than letting their guests enjoy it. Nonetheless, it's still an experience worth having whilst on Unicorn Island.

Food of the Tour

A basic lunch is served to the group on Tortoise Island, where we had the marinated pork with rice and vegetables, but I hear the menu can change depending on the day. If you still feel hungry after the initial meal, you can purchase extra food or drinks at your own expense.

After lunch, you get a good hour to wander Tortoise Island, where resting crocodiles can be seen caged in large numbers, and a few market stalls that sell local souvenirs. The best part is the hammocks, which get a good workout, with a few of the group getting a bit of a shut-eye after a feed.

Fruits of the tour and a Vietnamese concert

A bit of fruit with tea was the last on the Four Islands Mekong tour list. You are treated to a marvellous performance of Vietnamese music by the locals, with the show running for about fifteen minutes andvariousf artists performing in the mini-concert.
Even though Vietnam has experienced many years of war and conflict, it is still an incredibly hospitable and wonderful country to visit, with so much natural beauty and friendly people. The enjoyable performance contains a few basic instruments, their unique soothing voices and beautiful women dressedtraditionallys. It is a fantastic cultural experience to end a day before heading back home and sleeping on the bus through the chaotic Vietnamese traffic.

The music performance is indicative of this, being a relaxing way to finish off a tiring but fun-filled day of sightseeing. If you ever have the chance to visit Vietnam, go on the Four Islands Mekong tour – an experience you will treasure and remember for years.

After embarking on the four-island Mekong tour from Ho Chi Minh City, there is no doubt that this is an experience you don't want to miss. With a knowledgeable guide leading the way, we explored the stunning natural beauty and fascinating culture of each of the four unique islands. From watching traditional weaving techniques to trying out exotic fruits and taking in the breathtaking landscapes, every stop of this tour offered something new and exciting.

So, if you're looking for a way to immerse yourself in the beauty of southern Vietnam, the four-island Mekong tour is a must-see.

And let me tell you about the Balinese Massage - utterly relaxing and rejuvenating. The highlight of my stay, however, was my comfortable king-size bed. It was like sleeping on a cloud! But the cherry on top was undoubtedly the swimming pool. It was an absolute dream for any water lover out there.

Overall, I can confidently say that my stay at Sakala was one I will never forget. Every aspect of the Resort exudes luxury, and it's apparent how much dedication and effort the staff put into ensuring their guest's an unforgettable time in Tanjung Benoa.

Indonesian Culture is the theme at Alaya Resort Ubud.

At Alaya Resort, they are proud of their Indonesian/Balinese heritage, which shows throughout the Resort's design. You’ll notice a solid Indonesian flavour everywhere, whether in your hotel room with a lovely interior touch, the staff in their thoughtfully designed outfits, or the restaurants by the lush green rice fields. A rich piece of Indonesian Culture and lifestyle surrounds you.

If you are in Indonesia, then you should feel like you are in Indonesia. It may seem odd to talk of a resort’s proud Indonesian heritage within its own country, as it’s not always the case in a typical Balinese resort that goes the Western way. That was the point of difference the owners wanted to make when designing the Alaya resort, which was completed in 2013.

The staff rise to another level with excellent Customer Service.

My recent stay at Alaya Resort Ubud was indeed one of a kind. The staff greeted me warmly when I arrived and made me feel at home. I have never experienced customer service quite like this before.

What stood out was how the staff went above and beyond to make my stay comfortable. Every request I made, whether for extra towels or recommendations on local restaurants, was handled with care and enthusiasm. I felt like a valued guest, and I can't wait to return to Alaya Resort Ubud for my next vacation.

When visiting Alaya Resort, I was pleased to be met with a friendly and helpful staff that made my stay all the more enjoyable. Not only did they go out of their way for me - but you can also count on it when choosing this Resort!

Relax by the boutique swimming pools.

As someone who loves to relax and unwind, I cannot recommend Alaya Resort Ubud enough. The Resort offers the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life with its serene vibes. The two boutique swimming pools are stunning and make the ideal place to soak up the sun and enjoy some much-needed R&R.

Surrounded by palm trees and with views of lush rice fields, I could spend all day lounging by the sparkling waters. And when I need a little refreshment, the Bamboo Bar is always on hand to provide my favourite cocktail. So if you're looking for a slice of paradise in Bali, check out Alaya Resort Ubud!

Fine dine at Alaya in Style

Alaya Resort in Bali is the perfect destination for any food enthusiast. It showcases two exceptional restaurants, The Petani and Manisan Restaurants, to cater to all types of palettes. Despite their different approach, both restaurants serve delicious dishes, sure to tantalize your taste buds!

While The Petani serves traditional Balinese cuisine with a twist, Manisan introduces you to the region's conventional flavours through tantalizing fusion plates. Whether it's classic dishes or something new, Alaya's pride and passion for quality will make your dining experience truly one of a kind.

-  Petani –  Alaya Resort is the perfect destination to have a good time and indulge in cuisine. With Petani restaurant right by the lobby, Alaya serves a varied menu of International and Indonesian food for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The lively atmosphere is perfect for socialising with friends, relaxing over drinks and enjoying Balinese live music available during dinner hours at Petani.

Alaya ensures quality service for its guests during all three meals. It has exceptional cooking at all times - from traditional delicacies from that far corner of the world to traditional favourites from around the globe!

- Manisan – Alaya Resort's Manisan restaurant is a hidden gem for visitors looking for delicious Indonesian cuisine. Enjoy the beautiful scenery as you stroll through the rice fields from the lobby to the restaurant itself; it is an experience you won't forget.

This Alaya Resort will surely provide an unforgettable dining experience in one of Bali's natural wonders: the picturesque rice fields! The Manisan boasts a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere, perfect for any time of day. Help yourself to top-quality local food during breakfast, lunch, or dinner.

Breakfast at Alaya is made differently than other resorts, as it only offers A-La-Carte. No buffet. I loved the concept. Everything comes to your table fresh, from the fruit to your Western or Indonesian breakfast. It’s a great way to start your day.

Luxury Rooms with gorgeous views

One hundred five rooms make up the Alaya Resort; most of the time, the Resort is at 100% occupancy. Alaya has a good reputation in Ubud, and bookings in advance are recommended.

Perhaps the Resort’s strong reputation comes from the cheerful staff, the lush scenery, or the two delicious restaurants that await you at the Resort. However, another part of that equation is due to their stylish rooms, which come with that natural hint of Indonesian.

A Dala Spa to remember

You will feel at home, you will feel relaxed, and you will feel refreshed at the Dala Spa. Be prepared to be pampered and given a Balinese blessing before the treatment of your choice begins. Close your eyes, breathe and let the professional masseuse take care of you for the duration of your massage.

The Dala Spa offers a range of treatments with plenty of great packages available to suit your personal needs. I strongly recommend the Sandalwood Healing Massage; it’s all in the name as the Sandalwood is rolled all over the body, releasing any aches and Pains. Perfect if you prefer a massage on the solid side.

Enjoy Ubud while Staying at Alaya

As someone who loves travelling and visiting new places, I can confidently say that Ubud is a must-visit destination for all tourists. This charming township is bustling with energy and is the perfect spot to soak up the local Culture. Whether you are in the mood for some shopping or want to sample some delicious cuisine, Ubud has something for everyone.

The best part? Alaya Resort is located right in the heart of all the action. With traditional boutique stalls and restaurants at your doorstep, you won't have to venture too far to have an incredible experience. And let's not forget about the famous Monkey Forest, which is only a short walk from the Resort. Trust me when I say Alaya Resort is the perfect place to stay in Ubud.

Below is a list of the best things to do in Ubud!

1. Visit the Monkey Forest
The Monkey Forest is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Ubud. The forest is home to over 700 long-tailed macaques, and visitors can watch the monkeys play and swing from the trees. The Monkey Forest also has several temples that are worth exploring.

2. Go on a Rice Paddy Walk
Rice paddies are a common sight in Ubud, and many visitors enjoy walking through the paddies to get a glimpse of traditional Balinese farming methods. Several companies offer guided rice paddy walks, typically lasting around two hours.

3. Visit the Tegallalang Rice Terraces
The Tegallalang Rice Terraces are located just outside of Ubud and are one of Bali's most popular tourist destinations. The terraces offer stunning views of the surrounding countryside, and visitors can often see farmers working in the fields. There are also several warungs (local restaurants) near the terraces where you can try traditional Balinese cuisine.

4. Take a Cooking Class
Taking a cooking class is an excellent option if you’re interested in learning how to cook traditional Balinese food. Several cooking schools are located in Ubud, and most classes last around four hours. You’ll learn how to cook a variety of dishes, including nasi goreng (fried rice), satay (grilled meat skewers), and gado gado (vegetable salad).

5. Go White Water Rafting
White water rafting is a popular activity in Bali, and several companies offer tours in Ubud. Most tours last for around two hours and include all necessary equipment.
