Best Way to Carry Money Abroad and Travel with Peace of Mind

Best Way to Carry Money Abroad and Travel with Peace of Mind

Money is always on our minds!

Whether during our everyday lives or when we're out on the road and travelling the world, carrying money is a regular occurrence.

It's the travel aspect I wish to discuss with you right now and the best way to carry money abroad so that you can feel safe and secure on the road.

Everyone has methods of dealing with precious travel money, whether travelling with cash or getting by with a credit card as your primary use of spending.

Either way is acceptable, I use both, sometimes one more than the other depending on where I travel, and whatever you use, you'll always find suitable means on the best way to carry money abroad.

Best Way to Carry Money Abroad and Travel with Peace of Mind

Often securing your hard-earned money and virtual devices is at the forefront of your mind while roaming out and about at your intended destination.

Therefore, let's discuss the best way to carry money abroad and a couple of handy money travel tips while touring the globe.

Lock up the cash and carry the minimum amount required

The in-room hotel safe is ideal for locking up secure documents of passports, visas and extra money. You can use it to the maximum val, storere away extra cash and only taku the bare minimum needed while out for the day exploring.

If the hotel doesn't have an in-room safe, find an alternative method of storing away your extra cash securely in your room so it's not coming with you. If you're going to be a victim of theft while roaming about, it's best to minimise the damage and travel light.

Keep your cash secured with a travel money belt

Anything wrapped around your waist in the form of a travel pouch or a travel money belt is a fantastic way to secure money, cards and other essential items.

The belt is securely around your waist with secure zippers storing the goods, therefore, making it hard for anyone to snatch away your holiday money.

Secure the cards with an RFID Card Holder

Perhaps you don't need to physically lose your cash for your balance to go down because these days, tricky thieves are scanning your credit cards to get the digital information required to steal your money with alternate methods.

An RFID Cardholder, wallet or backpack will block any attempt for your thieves to scan your credit card details, therefore, giving you further peace of mind when travelling.

Use an Anti-theft Backpack for general use on day trips

A secure backpack is the standard purchase for travellers these days, especially when you think about the expensive items that travel with you besides cash.

That's right! I'm talking about cameras, laptops and other essentials that are by your side during your travel.

That's why, when you travel, a light and comfortable anti-theft backpack becomes an essential travel item to take on your adventures.

Wear clothing with secure pockets

At times, you want to keep the cash at easy access instead of digging around for it in a bag or pouch.

When it's possible, wear clothes that have secure zipper pockets where it will take skill and effort for the thieves to part with your money.

Not that it is entirely foolproof, as some of those thieves have mastered the art of taking valuables away from you without realisation.

Lookout for the best exchange rate

Let's get away from securing your cash and cards and have a look at how to maximise your money value.

While travelling, you shouldn't rush to the first exchange bank you find, especially the airport outlets, upon arrival. In that case, you can exchange enough to get by.

Try searching around for the best foreign exchange rate at several outlets in an attempt to betterment the money you have brought with you from home.

More spending money means fun stuff for you on holidays.

Always travel with freedom and purchase travel insurance

One last thing and the one item you must buy is travel insurance.

If you are a victim of theft, whether it's a camera, smartphone or cash, don't lose it completely. Travel insurance can ultimately save you thousands of dollars if you're a victim of theft, or in the worst-case scenario, need medical attention.

I hope this little information of advice can help you travel with peace of mind when visiting the globe because the last thing you need is to lose what is rather valuable to you.

History and Statistics of Toronto Pearson International Airport

In 1937, the Canadian government decided to construct two new airports. The first was located in downtown Toronto, while the second was built in the northwestern part of the city, near a small town called Malton.

At the time, the plan was for the Malton airport to serve as a supplementary airport to its predecessor downtown, which was expected to be less popular and busy. However, fate had other plans for the two airports.

Today, the Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport stands in downtown Toronto. Toronto Pearson International Airport, built on the Malton site, has become a major commercial airport, far exceeding the original predictions. It's fascinating to contemplate how these two airports have developed over almost a century.

Originally called the Malton Airport, Toronto Pearson International Airport was renamed in 1958, changed to Lester B. Pearson International Airport in 1984, and received its current name when the Greater Toronto Airports Authority (GTAA) assumed management in 1996.

Terminals

Toronto Pearson International Airport has two active public terminals: Terminal 1 and Terminal 3. You might wonder what happened to Terminal 2.

Terminal 2 was permanently closed and demolished in 2007. An expansion to Terminal 1 replaced it.

Terminal 1 is Canada's largest airport terminal and the world's 12th-largest. It has 58 gates, and Terminal 3 has 48 gates. The fact that Terminal 2 is no longer there could be confusing, and perhaps the airport should consider renaming Terminals 1 and 3 to 1 and 2.

Terminal 1 has an eight-level parking garage with a capacity of 8,400 cars, and Terminal 3 has a five-level parking garage with a capacity of 3,800 vehicles.

Welcome to Canada!

Facilities

Toronto Pearson International Airport has many facilities and amenities that will make your pre or post-flight stay more pleasant. There are three Plaza Premium lounges in Terminal 1 and three in Terminal 3.

These lounges serve a hot and cold buffet with vegetarian options and self-serving liquor selections for foodie travellers. They also offer free Wi-Fi, charging stations for phones or other gadgets, and comfortable seating.

If you want to freshen up before or after a long flight, showers are available in Terminal 1's domestic and international departure lounges.

In the Terminal 3 domestic departures lounge, you can indulge and unwind with spa services, such as massages and manicures.

There are also plenty of shops for people looking to buy presents on the way home or supplies for the flight itself. Rocky Mountain Chocolate has some delicious sweet treats, MAC Cosmetics offers high-end cosmetic stores, and the Body Shop is renowned for its high-quality skincare and beauty products.

The Terminal 1 International section boasts many designer shops, including Burberry, Chanel, and Gucci. The luxury facilities available at this airport suggest that it has been designed for high-end customers. However, there is something for everyone here, and shops cater to all budgets.

Parking

This airport offers several parking options to suit different budgets and preferences. The express park option costs $5 every 30 minutes, up to a daily maximum of $50.

This choice is intended for people dropping off passengers, so you will probably only have to pay a maximum of $10 since you will likely not be waiting more than an hour.

If you are flying on a plane and want to leave your car in a car park, the daily park option is more suitable. It costs $30 daily and drops to $175 for seven days.

Therefore, if your vacation is ten days, it will cost $175 plus $90, which is $265. Airport parking is not known for being economical no matter what airport you're travelling through, but it may be the only option for some people and can be highly convenient.

Plenty of room for parking for everyone.

Security

Going through airport security can be daunting, but it's necessary to ensure everyone's safety. You'll face the security line after checking in and handling your luggage. Be prepared to have all your carry-on bags checked and your items scrutinized.

You may even undergo an individual search to confirm that nothing dangerous is on your person. Electronic devices are also subject to enhanced screening on a random basis to add an extra layer of security.

It's good practice to ensure your phone is fully charged and functional before arriving at security if you're one of the lucky ones selected for this screening. Rest assured that these measures are in place to keep everyone safe during their travels.

Innovative Features of Toronto Pearson Airport

Toronto Pearson Airport is a trailblazer in aviation technology, integrating cutting-edge innovations to enhance passenger safety and convenience.

Artificial Intelligence Enhances Security

One of the most remarkable advancements at Toronto Pearson is integrating artificial intelligence (AI) into its security systems. This technology bolsters the already robust framework by improving weapon detection accuracy and efficiency. The AI-powered system not only speeds up the security screening process but also ensures a safer environment for all travellers, making it one of the most forward-thinking airports in the world.

Convenient Uber Self-Service Kiosks

Toronto Pearson Airport also caters to passenger convenience by introducing Uber self-service kiosks. These kiosks simplify the process of finding transport upon landing, eliminating the need for smartphone navigation. Travellers can quickly book a ride with a few taps, ensuring a seamless transition from the terminal to their destination.

By combining advanced AI security measures with innovative transport solutions, Toronto Pearson redefines the travel experience and sets a benchmark for airports worldwide.

Conclusion of Toronto Pearson International Airport

As you navigate through Toronto Pearson International Airport, it’s impossible not to admire the seamless blend of cutting-edge technology and world-class efficiency. This bustling gateway to Canada exemplifies how airports can evolve to meet the needs of modern travellers.

From AI-enhanced security systems prioritising safety and efficiency to self-service kiosks making transportation and check-ins effortless, Toronto Pearson has embraced innovation at every turn. Imagine a journey where artificial intelligence interacts with you in real-time, providing instant support or booking transport is as easy as a few taps—this is the future, brought to life today.

These advancements aren't just conveniences; they represent a bold step forward in redefining the airport experience. Toronto Pearson International Airport stands at the forefront of this transformation, setting a benchmark that few can rival. In conclusion, if you’re looking for a modern, efficient, and traveller-focused airport, Toronto Pearson is undeniably a class above the rest.

Follow Abbie into the Borneo Rainforest and enjoy some hiking in  Sarawak.

The Be One with Nature Day trip - Hiking in Sarawak.

The Be One with Nature day trip with Backyard Tours is an exceptional adventure guided by the enthusiastic Abbie. This tour exemplifies the beauty and charm of Borneo's rainforest, and I'm excited to delve into the details of this remarkable experience.

The journey began in the early morning, with Abbie picking me up from my hotel in Kuching. From there, we embarked on a scenic 90-minute drive to the remote village of Kampung Annah Sadir. The drive was a treat, offering glimpses of Sarawak's lush, sprawling landscapes.

Upon arrival in Kampung Annah Sadir, we were greeted by the warm hospitality of the villagers. The village's charm was immediately evident, with friendly locals eager to welcome us. The children, with their bright smiles and curious eyes, added a touch of innocence and wonder to the start of our adventure. Their excitement about our visit was palpable, setting a positive tone for the day ahead.

The real adventure in the jungle began after we met our experienced local guide, Lawrence. With his deep knowledge of the rainforest, Lawrence led us into the heart of the Borneo Rainforest, where we started our hike through the dense and vibrant foliage.

The trek was both exhilarating and challenging. The ninety-minute journey through the rainforest featured stunning scenery, from lush greenery to intricate, winding paths. We navigated rickety bamboo bridges that spanned over shallow creeks, adding a thrill to the adventure. Despite the oppressive heat and humidity, the rainforest was a haven, offering our hike a safe and immersive environment.

We made occasional pitstops along the way, crucial for catching our breath and appreciating the breathtaking beauty around us. These respite moments allowed us to soak in the serene atmosphere of the rainforest, providing a much-needed break from the intense Malaysian heat.

The effort and sweat of the trek were all worth it when we finally arrived at the picturesque waterfall. The sound of the cascading water reached us long before we saw it, a thunderous roar that built anticipation. The sight of the waterfall, nestled in the verdant jungle, was a spectacular reward for our hard work. It was a stunning highlight of the journey, embodying Borneo's rainforest's raw and unspoiled beauty.

The Beautiful Waterfall and a locally made Delicious lunch

From the peak, the view of the Ban Buan Kukuot Waterfall is nothing short of mesmerizing. Its name seems to capture the essence of its grandeur—majestic and enchanting. The waterfall cascades down the rugged terrain, creating a picturesque scene as breathtaking as its name suggests.

On the day of our visit, we were fortunate to have the place almost to ourselves, except for a group of professors from Kuching University who were also there. This remote location is typically untouched by the crowds of tourists, making it a serene and exclusive destination. The rarity of visitors only adds to the allure of this hidden gem.

After taking in the panoramic beauty from the top, we descended the steps to the base of the falls. This descent offered a new perspective, allowing us to appreciate the waterfall's splendour up close. The roar of the water and the mist surrounding us contrasted with the hike, making the experience even more rewarding.

borneo waterfall

The Ban Buan Kukuot Waterfall.

As tempting as it is to dive right in and cool off, a few photos from different angles capture the waterfall’s splendour before taking the plunge. Entering the freshwater requires a bit of caution due to the many slippery rocks underfoot, so it's advisable to bring rubber shoes. However, I went barefoot on this occasion, navigating the tricky footing carefully.

Once submerged in the cool, crystal-clear water, the refreshing change in temperature is an invigorating relief. Swimming closer to the base of the falls, you can feel the mighty rush of water cascading onto your back, providing a natural massage that eases the muscles and rejuvenates you, especially knowing there’s a return hike ahead. It’s the perfect way to freshen up for the next leg of the journey.

While we were soaking in the natural beauty and the waterfall’s soothing waters, Lawrence was busy preparing a traditional Bidayuh feast. The aroma of chicken boiled in a bamboo pipe and seasoned with local herbs mingled with the distinct scent of catfish cleverly smoked over an open fire.

The meal was a fantastic highlight of the day. The flavours of the Bidayuh cuisine were outstanding, with the smoked fish being particularly memorable. Honestly, I’ve never tasted a more delightful feed of smoked fish. As we gathered around to enjoy this delicious meal, it was clear that Lawrence’s culinary skills were as impressive as his guiding expertise. Congratulations to Lawrence for making this day trip even more special!

A feast in the jungle.

After savouring the delightful Bidayuh meal, we set off on the return journey, retracing our steps with a slight detour that led us to another enchanting spot: Mabi Falls. The detour was a welcome addition to our adventure, offering yet another opportunity to immerse ourselves in the natural beauty of the Borneo Rainforest.

The trek to Mabi Falls was a refreshing change of pace, allowing us to continue exploring the lush landscapes that define Sarawak’s rainforest. The trail to the falls was a scenic delight, with vibrant foliage and the occasional glimpse of wildlife adding to the allure of the journey.

Upon reaching Mabi Falls, we took a moment to soak in its beauty. Though our visit was brief, it was long enough to appreciate this lesser-known gem's charm fully. The cascading waters of Mabi Falls were serene and picturesque, providing a tranquil contrast to the more dramatic Ban Buan Kukuot Waterfall we had previously visited. The sight of the water tumbling down the rocks, surrounded by dense greenery, offered a peaceful respite and further connection with nature.

Our time at Mabi Falls was a perfect ending to our rainforest adventure. It allowed us to deepen our appreciation for the diverse and breathtaking landscapes of Borneo. The short but sweet stop was a testament to the hidden treasures awaiting discovery in the rainforest, reminding us of nature's boundless beauty.

As we concluded our visit to Mabi Falls and began our journey back, it was clear that the day had been an enriching experience, filled with stunning vistas, refreshing swims, and the delightful flavours of traditional cuisine. The entire adventure was a profound reminder of the wonders of the Borneo Rainforest and the invaluable experiences it holds.
