Unlike when heading to the Southwest corner of the state for a Perth to Augusta trip, the scenery is quite different, with the tall trees and vineyard wineries unseen on your way to Jurien.

The Indian Ocean Drive scenery changes from Perth to Jurien Bay, at times for the better, with the natural landscapes vastly different to the southern corner, with a mixture of smaller native trees, shrubs and massive dunes seen throughout the coastal strip.

A few of these destinations listed below will provide an opportunity for a fabulous short stay, whether camping, caravanning, chalets, hotels or holiday houses. Alternatively, you might want to stop for an hour and see what the fuss is about with some of these West Aussie attractions.

 

Guilderton - The Home of the Moore River

Guilderton is one of my favourite destinations in Western Australia. It's located an hour from Perth and is home to the stunning Moore River. From a high vantage point, you can capture the perfect photo of the river mouth as it meets the Indian Ocean during a beautiful sunset. It's truly a sensational sight to behold.

Most people prefer to stay at a Holiday House or the Moore River Caravan Park for a typical weekend getaway. The latter option allows you to camp in a tent or rent a chalet.

There are plenty of popular activities to enjoy in the area, including swimming, kayaking, fishing, sightseeing, walking along the beach, hiking, golfing, and having a picnic lunch on the river's sandy banks.

Lancelin - The Home of the Sand Dunes

The Perth to Lancelin trip is around 90 minutes and makes for a good resting point mid-trip to Jurien Bay. It’s also a stopover that any adventure junky will love, with the area accessible for four-wheel-driving and a spin on the quad bikes.

While the town has the usual coastal views, fishing, boating, and other water-based activities to get excited about during your stay, the dunes and the town’s famous bakery will need your attention, especially if you only plan to stay in Lancelin for an hour or two and need a quick feed and a rush.

At the Lancelin dunes, you can get an adrenaline rush with sandboarding, motorbike riding, quad bikes, and a four-wheel-drive adventure over the hilly sands. Don’t forget to bring your sunglasses, though, because the white sand and sun will hinder your eyesight without them, and you still need to travel from Lancelin to Jurien Bay.

These hotels are the antithesis of luxury but are absurdly affordable and offer a decent place to rest your head for the night. You may not get a room with a view, but you will get a bed to sleep in and a shower to freshen up after a long day of exploring. And let's be honest, when you're travelling, you're not spending much time in your hotel room anyway.

Just a quick note on the Kathmandu hotel price I paid - it may not be the same rate you get, as it varies depending on the time of year or season you visit Nepal. Regardless of the price, these hotels provide a safe and comfortable option for budget-conscious travellers looking to experience all of Nepal's offers.

The outside noise could be heard, but the room had a large bed, plenty of blankets for warmth, a hot shower, and a desk for writing. I paid only AUD$13 per night for this room, making it an affordable option for budget travellers exploring Kathmandu.

The hotel was located in the bustling streets of Thamel, a popular tourist area in Kathmandu. This meant that significant restaurants, bars, and cafes surrounded the hotel. Also, taxi stands were nearby, making visiting the city's main tourist attractions easy.
